Right hyperphtically, if I had an na slicktop and a tt slicktop from the same year, how easy would it be to convert the na to twin turbo?

I ask because our bodyshop has really annoyed me as my zeds untouched....

Seen a nice na on eBay, as well as been offered one on here, both less then I was paying to repair the body of my current slicktop...

With a complete donor( having alot replaced/ rebuilt) is it a viable alternative?

Thats what im doing Ash, i have a UKTT that im putting into the yellow NA. There are no fixings for the side mount intercoolers, but you could go for a front mounted one, a little fabrication for pipework.

You can use the NA loom, you wont have boost solenoid wires but use aftermarket boost controller and no issues, but im going to strip the loom from the TT, including fuel pump, ecu and associated wiring and install as much as i can that i need.

Its not a straight forward drop in and play, but more than viable IMO

Plenty of write ups for the conversion, so weigh it up yourself :thumbup1:

With both cars to hand it is a simple swap over, in a workshop maybe 2 days, at home 3 to 4 days.

This is just a "how ong is a piece of string?" type question.

The answer will be different from diferent people.

It all depends on your own skill set.

The type of facilities you have.

The amount of time you can put in to it.

Your overall time scale expectation.

etc etc............

Anything is possible... my NA manwell slicktop started life in Japan as a TT auto:yes:

Edited by Slick Pete.

If you need a hand stripping/engine pulling I could come down if I'm not busy.

How bad is your current slicktop?

I came back from our bodyshop so annoyed wasn't really thinking, I'm going to buy an na anyway, but I've messaged jimmer and asked him to cancel my slot, I'll source a new bodyshop and rebook with him once it's done. Feel like a idiot, hopefully jimmer can book something else in,

It's ashame bodymech is so far or id take it to them.

I think its the better decision, there isn't much of a Z left underneath that...

Prrrrrrrr that's um, worse than I thought. I mean it's repairable, but there's many many hours in that. It's the kind of project you take on to do yourself because these cars aren't worth enough to pay the panel and labour bill on that. To be totally honest ash unless your prepared to learn to weld and do that yourself then I think that's financially a bad choice. Hopefully someone will take it off you as a long term project.

Re-shell mate. Sorry.

Sills and arches? Behave, a bit of fab and welding at that will be sorted! Certainly less labour that a full engine transplant at a (garage) estimate of 14 hours! Mine is a lot worse that this and I'm not even looking at donor bodies! Keep as many as we can alive guys because it's the donor body mentality that is killing these off! We all knew when we bought these that this is a very real risk and given the Japanese preloaded rust from the factory it's something we have to deal with but why make 2 cars one? Can't understand it, put the graft in and be happy knowing you have!

Sorry mate but I can't agree with a donor for that kind of corrosion, get a decent welder and get stuck in ;)

If you strip the silver na then I'll have the shell off you though, let me know

It's a lot more than his sill and arches. I take it you've got stuck into this kind of this before? What you can see is normally the tip of the iceberg. That's going to be both sills, probably most of the sill. Both rear arches. A rear quarter panel. An inner wing at least, maybe both. A door. Various patch repairs to the floor pan. The panel bill will be racking up quite nicely. That's with no labour. That's a serious undertaking esp for a novice. Months of work fitted around work and home learning as he goes.

Now I dunno about you but I can pull a zed engine in an afternoon. With both cars sat there it's gonna take him a few long days of graft. Like I said, it's save able but it's not finically viable. Your talking about a car that's worth 5k tops, if a shell can be found for sub 1k it's a no brainier. If someone wished to go the expensive route that's great and power to them but if your going to pay for professional restoration your going to need deep pockets.

Thing is I agree, we need to save these particularly a factory '95 twin turbo slicktop manual.

Had a very long chat with our bodyshop manager yesterday, long story short I'm try to buy the na I've seen, but probably not for the a new shell, the silver one is staying at our bodyshop long-term, don't expect it to be done for months and months. But their treating it as an in house project, their confident it can be repaired, (eventually)

I'd give it ago myself but I've no place to do it. And it's mot runs out soon.

Your not a dummy Ash, you've obviously weighed it all up and decided it's worth it to you. That's your choice and I'm glad it will be saved.

I can't believe how bad that has got in such a short space of time. When I had the car it had a tiny bit of bubbling on the wheel arches :(

I think when the previous owner had the heater matrix blow, he didn't dry it out properly...

I've never seen a hole like that in a zed before. Was still damp under the sound deadening....

Problem is I'm stupid when it comes to zeds. I don't see the colander, I see the 600hp car I've wanted to build for years, maybe I should have my eyes checked... Or head examined...

Sorry, I think my post came out a little more abruptly than I intended, it was a little tongue in cheek, but I think it's a valid point that these are getting more and more rare, especially the slicktops

Ash I'm stalking again... I can't believe how bad she is! It was immaculate when I had her (although it was a few years ago now) without a mark on it. To be fair when we painted it, it was pretty good apart from the passenger front wing which was full of filler so we swapped it for a spare one! (that wing was black once upon a time!) I'm pretty sure from memory Dean, when she came to you there wasn't event a bubble or sign of rust on it?!

I didnt know the heater matrix had gone at some point in fairly recent history but yeah I do wonder how corrosive coolant can be, especially if its had something fancy put in it.

This should be a lesson to complacent Zed owners, this particular example being several years newer than most on the road, that they need checking in detail regularly to stop things getting out of hand.

Heart breaking to see :(

There was a couple of tiny bubbles on one of the wheel arches mate. All the suspension bits were corroded when I looked underneath on MOT but apart from that was solid enough..... but I had always kept that car in a garage so maybe the chap that bought it from me kept it outside a lot!

Think he kept it in a pond...

Tbh I keep it outside but it's under a very good cover, (which is removed on hot days, and only put on dry..

It is a shame, but it happens, will serve me right for not going over it with a fine tooth combe, she's not dead yet, got a call from the fabricator the structural rust is gone, still some cosmetic bits but I'm collecting her tomorrow,

Jeez!, that was quick! How long has he had it? A week?? Has he cut out and replaced all the rust? Was he expensive or is he a friend? He must've dropped everything and just stayed stuck into yours. Any pics Ash??
