Evening all,

Earlier this week I was driving to my brother’s house when I had an accident in my zed. I was turning right into a side road and failed to see the oncoming vehicle approaching. Fortunately, no one was injured – and suffice to say I feel like a right prat!

As you can see from the picture my zed is looking worse for wear. I’m hoping to fix the car myself (with the help of family and friends with the appropriate skills) using second hand parts. I was wondering if there are any differences between the variations of the Z32 I should be considering when looking at parts. For example, will a SWB door fit a LWB car, would a UK wing fit an import, or would a series 2 headlight fit a series 1?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Everything from the windshield to the front of the car are the same between a swb and a lwb. A swb door will not directly fit into a lwb and its such a big hassle modding it so lets say it wont. TT bumpers are different but will fit.

Is it just body damage or there frame and suspension damage?

Don't know the full extent of the damage under the body, haven't ruled anything out at this stage.

I'm waiting to hear what the insurance company want me to do before i go stripping it back to see what lies behind the panels.

Sorry to see this mate.

The front wings. Bumper, bonnet, lights etc are the same across all of the cars bud.

Edit: obviously you'll want a NA bumper and 99 specs will fit too

Thanks everyone,

I thought most (if not) all of the front end would be the same, but wanted to double check before i buy a load of parts to find out they don't fit for one reason or another.

Ok dont fret that is almost certainly an easy repair:

First off you need to get some details ready for the insurance or they may scupper your chances of getting it done.

NEVER let the insurance take the car, NEVER EVER this is how it works, they take it, assess it and write it off, you never see it again.

So if they want to look at it, insist they come to you, if need be send photo`s to the assessor to show it does not need to go on a ramp for inspection etc.

So to cost, average prices below for parts, try your utmost to get the correct colour bumper and wing and you will not have any paint cost then.

1) Bumper £70 n/a or TT

2) Headlight panel £25

3) Headlight ( JAP ) £35

4) Bonnet £60

5) Fog light (Jap ) £15

6) Wing £60

7) sundries nuts bolt clips £10

Total £275 + any postal cost

So what you need to say is you want a "contact price " to repair, basically this is you accept from them a cash amount to do the job yourself, if you say the parts are almost impossible to get new that will help as they only like fitting new parts.

You will have to give supporting evidence of the repair cost, maybe a quote from a parts supplier and a quote from a body shop to fit them, this together will form a basis of what they offer, if it over £500 just take it and don`t argue if its under £400 ask for a recalculation, of course any offer they make will be less your excess, so you need to know what this is as it could be a deal breaker if its £600 !!

Also I would be inclined to remove the bumper and the wing to see what has gone in behind them, its likely the bumper support is broken but they can be usually be fixed with some fibre glass resin, there is likely some bent brackets and bracket locations.

Assuming you have all the bits to hand and a friend helping its a Sunday job, nothing more, stripping ahead would make the refit a few hours if that for any keen Diy mech and with a few basic tool too.

Good luck with it and any more help required ask away..

Jeff

Shame I gave away my headlights! I'd have been happy to send you one gratis.

Speak to Baz, with a bit of luck, he might have silver body panels saving you money on paint at least.

Guys, I don’t know what to say…

After what has been a rubbish few days, it’s been a breath of fresh air coming onto this forum. As fellow zed owners, I was hoping to get some advice to help save my car from the scrap heap. I certainly didn’t expect anyone to start offering up parts.

Thank you for all the help and advice, it’s really appreciated.

Thanks Lexx for the offer of the headlight, I’ll PM you shortly.

I'm in Bristol, so about an hour away from Glastonbury, depending on traffic.

So right near Jimmer.

And japday is next weekend so if anyone is going to that and can spare some bits you could maybe meet and pick up from there. Unfortunately i dont have any of those parts so cant help.

Yep, I haven't met Jimmer yet, but it's reassuring to know there's a specialist in the area... especially now!

Thanks, I may take you up on that offer once I know what I'm dealing with under the bodywork. :thumbup1:

Ewww..that hurts:( anyhow don´t over go, everything has a solution in life bro; just get a nice good professional bodyshop and good to go.

Ouch.....

.....But fortunately it looks mostly cosmetic damage! There are some decent offers of help so far - so much so, it makes me proud to be affiliated to this club! Top work guys, that's what it's all about....

Good luck in getting your car back in shape mate,

Richard:clover:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hope you get it sorted mate, I have nothing to offer except good luck :)

The car is on my brother's drive and I'm going over tomorrow to start stripping damaged parts etc. I'll be sure to keep the thread updated with any progress i make!

I found some time Friday to peel away the damaged bodywork and have a look at what lies beneath. Not sure what to make of it at this stage. The frame around the headlight is clearly damaged, and the wheel arch (for use of a better word) has a ‘pinch’ in it. I haven’t got under the car yet or checked the suspension. Think this is the point where I call on a body shop before deciding what to do next.

Here's a picture of the wheel arch (not sure if it's actually called a wheel arch but i can't think of what else to call it...) from inside the engine bay

And here's a picture from underneath.

Also noticed this when i was moving the car...

Damn winter again already...

I'm no expert, but it doesn't look disastrous, nothing looks structurally compromised and I would like to think that a shop could straighten the metal.
