Looking for a colour change in the near future as mine is a mis-matched white currently so looking to go to a deep space grey.

I'm looking to get a proper job done, drop the engine, trims, the lot so she looks mint.

Anyone got any suggested places?

Anyone who has done something similar got any ballpark figures?

Featured Replies

Colour Change done properly id estimate anywhere from 2.5k as a rough guide, some places may even quote 4k for a job of that magnitude

As above - that's based on stripping the car yourself.

I don't know how much I'd feel comfortable stripping myself. I'd be okay with trims, bumper and panels, door cards, basic stuff but when it comes to mechanicals I'm not sure how Much I trust myself with. I can do SMIC and rad only because I've replaced them other than that..

It depends where you take it. You could find quotes from 1500 quid to 10000+. Your best bet is to source some local, reliable, reputable companies and get a quote. Be sure to check out the work they do/have done for as long as you can and whichever seems to offer what you want, go for them [emoji106]

Yeah I'll have to put in some looking. Has to be a top job!

Checking if anyone can recommend someone Z special

Check out Bodymech in our traders section, Alan's done some amazing jobs on lots of members cars

I could recommend a very good place near me. They have done quite a few Z's, including mechanicals such as engine removal. They won't be cheap though and are a long way from home for you.

There are a few forum members to keep in mind too, Allan @ bodymech would be able to help, Keith has recently painted a members car, Lee Dent or Jimmer could be employed to pull and reinstall the engine before and after if needed.

Just sent Allan a message! I may look into shifting work between people but think it'd be better to as few as possible so it all stays in sync. Really need people who are familiar with the Z so will try to find them

Keith is north Shrewsberry so not too far from you also. If he can't get the engine out by himself, he's not too far from Lee Dent.

Though he did tell me he was booked up for quite a while :whistling:

just remember its not just the paint cost its all the other bit and bobs you endup changing at the same time it all adds up so you mite spend 2.5 k on paint like i have. but the time i factor in all the new wing moving the car round trying to get all the bits trims sorted the list goes on and on and on and on lol so it ended up more like 3.5k if not more. just make sure you have that in mind

That is true! I may look into replacing Wack trims and anything that is a bit tarnished while its stripped..

granted i have gone a step more than most but still adds up fast adn you end up draining your bank account.

I'm fortunate my father is halfs with me on the car so there's a bit of play.

(He wanted nothing to do with it until I brought it home and he drove it, then he wants in!)

Disputes on colour!

I was thinking a deep grey but there's some nice reds and blues also!

What do you think the best colour is?

My favourite is white:

But I like these blues also:

I do like the white. Mines currently white, but prefer a 'dark knight' feel so prefer darker colours like that first blue photo, possibly darker

God I don't even know! If you can get enough offset black trims on a white it is gorgeous.. So hard!

I know, that's why I made that picture like that. I'm not a fan of plain white, because it just looks flat, but black parts can really make it stand out.

(P.S if you want me to mess around with colour schemes I can whip up some Photoshops)

It's on the wrong car.. But this grey-like purple (I am partially colour blind so shades may look different to me xD) is awesome

Its a purple green pearlescent paint. It can stand out, but some combos can make bad colour clashes IMO.

I don't know how it would look on a Z but this custom metallic grey might look really different, as I havent seen many grey Zs
