Just discovered that my Z has a coolant leak on the front of the engine, the second pipe below the radiator inlet(I think its an inlet?) pipe.

It only starts to leak when the engine has run for a minute but then gets bad.

After looking it appears the previous owner has put some grunge all around the pipe to stop it..

Does anyone know what this pipe connects to? and if its expensive job :(

Thanks

Yeah.. You say its not hard, What does it entail? I can't even find a replacement part??

The top pipe connects to the top left of the radiator (can be obviously seen), and the bottom pipe goes straight down, then across the bottom of the radiator and connects onto the bottom right of the radiator. As said above, needs repairing properly.

Sfs, sell a silicone set of top and bottom coolant pipes. Apparently worth upgrading as I believe the lower pipe can collapse and cause flow problems.

if i was doing it and i will be in a few weeks as i new powercoated pipes to go on, drain the rad remove it only a few bolts hold it in remove fan and you will have a load of room to see what going on. dont mess about here as if it drops all the water when you a say on the motoway its going to bad tings to the engine, all can be done with a few spanner and a a few sockets

OK Guys, I will get the radiator and fan out and take the pipe off and picture the damage for further advice. Await my follow-up please! :)

ok if you can handle a spanner you will have no issue.look bad but one you have the red and fan out you will see there was nothing to worry out ive had mine of like 8 times or more

dont drive the car now till you sort it not worth the risk

if you so you dont need to remove rad or fan

SFS hoses are pretty good normally Dan. Does seem odd, sometimes silicone hoses do struggle to seal as well as rubber. I'd pop the hose off and look at the mating face, maybe it's covered is crap and oxidation. I doubt it's anything sinister.

yes could be like

Are you here looking at the car with me? seems to me you've described what I can see perfectly, no cracks in hose or the face itself, going to cleanup and see how the seal is then.

Looks to me like the jubilee clip isn't on very well, probably just take it off, clean the crap off and put it all on properly. I'm sure that's all it'll be.

Update for everyone! Really appreciate the quick replies!

It appears if was a bad seal between the hose and the face, a mix of oxidation and the hose being pushed on too far meant it couldn't be fastened tightly..

after cleaning up and tightening down, ran it for 15 mins and no apparent dribbles!

appears to be solved! PHEW!

Thanks again!

I have no idea! From what i could see, was the hose was pushed over the little notch that would make a gap between the hose and face, so they decided to lather it in bodge.. possibly without noticing the notch and wanted to fill the gap.. i don't get it either.
