Ok so before I commit to anything this year i need to make sure my car is tip top mechanical condition.

First question is do NA rear disks fit a TT. I have aftermarket wheels with a bigger offset if it makes a difference.

If yes then will they be okay if they have been sat for ~6months and have some surface rust but i would prefer to use them as they are slotted. (will the integrity of the disk be compromised are being sat?)

Roughly how much will a full set of disks and pads be? Should i get ceramic pads or some upgraded ones?

What tyres for strictly road use?

And finally I need a pair of front coilovers as one of mine is cracked if anyone has a used pair?

Maybe noob questions but I don't want to skimp and buy crap stuff, and I don't want to be buying overly expensive racing parts...

Regardless, offset is identical.

Depends how worn your rear disks are and how much rust is on them really. They should be ok. You could get them spun on a lathe if you were worried.

As for the cost of a full set of disks and pads - how long is a piece of string? You can get cheapo stuff or very expensive Brembo parts. It really depends on your budget.

From the list of tyres you've put up, I'd go for the Michelin or the Bridgestone.

'how long do i need the piece of string' is a question I don't know how to answer. Obviously I won't be tracking it so i suppose if i could get some specs or product codes or something so that i can compare the different sets that fit it.

Are there any other tyres you would suggest not on there?

Thanks for your help Si

I've got Pirelli P-Zero and I've found them to be utterly fantastic. I pushed them right to their limits in southern France last year and they kept on gripping the harder I pushed the car. I ended up fitting P-Zeros on my daily too as I was so impressed with them.

For the brakes don't go for brembos unless you use the car regularly as they can rust quicker than normal. I have them on my monaro but many other owners who use their cars for the odd weekend have replaced them quite quickly due to rust.

And they don't wear out too quickly?

I'm not really interested in longevity per se, as long as they do ok. I've run Bridgestone, Toyo, Yokohama and some other tyres on my Z over the years and the P-Zero have been my favourite.

But I wouldn't fit your chosen size if I'm honest.......

That would be quite a large side wall. Off-roading?

I noticed, I'm pretty sure its 265/35/R18 bad memory lol

Hello, do not buy cheap brakes. I bought some MTEC discs off ebay and melted them in a couple of drives. I now run K sports but get some decent discs and pads. Ebc or something with a proper brand. They don't have to be a fortune but a quality item.

With regard to pads, my ksports have blackstuffs and they're fine. I remember liking yellowstuff pads in the past.

I may be wrong, but the way I think if it is:

Discs = how many times you can brake hard before they fade.

Pads = what your brakes feel like.

That is over simplified but thats what I believe to be true.

Tyres. You don't need ferrari tyres on your zed. Mine came with Wanli 905s. Read the reviews for a giggle, I nearly died... a lot, like wheelspin in 5th and snap oversteer. So, I learned about shit tyres from that. I have also had some really soft tyres before, and they're a good giggle but the gripper your tyres are the quicker they will wear (generally). My last set were kuhmos, they were no more than £100 each (265/35/18) amd totally fine. I don't like too much grip, those tyres were perfectly safe, unlike the wanlis, they were predictable and grippy enough, didn't pull on lines too much. Good tyres. The bloke said they were for quick ish bmws.

I now use hanooks, same bloke as last time (every time) I said, one step stickier please, because I am about 50 torques better off now and needed it.

In short.

Don't buy shit brakes.

Don't buy ferrari tyres.

Drive safe :)
