This is a little complicated. My car is a combination of parts from 3 different vehicles. My shell is a 1990 import, everything else is off a n-plate 95 import, manual transmission, engine, wiring loom etc etc. My instrument cluster is from a UK spec 1990. Any ideas folks??????

Did it previously work, or has it never worked since all the parts were transplanted?

It's never worked since it's transplant.

I've checked the sensor connection plug on gearbox, the sensor itself looks OK. I found a post from jefftt saying the only problem with these is when the black plastic end bit moves outward from the body.

Is the Hicas light illuminated?

It is but then I removed it with that driftworks hicas eliminator kit. But it didn't work before the kit was fitted.

The later vehicle which I removed the loom from had electric hicas rather than hydraulic hicas. I guess I will have to put a multimeter on the sensor terminals behind cluster and see if the voltage changes when I drive.

Doesnt the 95 instrument cluster use different plugs to the 90?

I thought you couldnt put a early cluster in a series 4 or above car

Presumably you had to cut plugs off the loom and fit different ones?

No that loom was already in the shell. I changed the main engine loom because it had been hacksawed off at the bulkhead and the donor car had a spliced piggy back greedy emanage.

Would I be right in assuming that if I am putting a UK instrument cluster into a jdm spec car I will not need a kph to mph converter????

Problems with this tend to be the Solder in the back of the pcb in the instrument cluster, however as it's a later cluster I would suspect speed sensor or wiring.

It's actually the cluster from my 1991 uk spec, but one of the wires has been cut and reconnected with bullets. Will solder and heat shrink, just to eliminate, fingers crossed, hopefully may resolve issue.
