Oddly we call them slicktops, and I've heard MR2 owners use the term "tin top". Everyone else would just say hard top.

    Tin tops quite common. It's just because some cars like ours a non hard top is the norm.

    The 'slicktop' term is a term imported from the US. Something to do with undercover cop cars with no lighting equipment fitted to the roof I believe. It's a term used a lot over there and as the car was so popular in the US, the term found its way over to the UK.
