So as per the title I attended a rolling road day today.

The guys that were doing the run didn't know how to set the Zed for the run and I ended up with some lower than expected numbers. They admitted to me that they weren't sure how to play it.

For those that do or have run an auto on the rolling road, what is the key to getting them set on the rollers for future runs?

Cheers,

B00m

See now that's what I was thinking, them plums at the RR wanted it to hold a gear.

So nothing special at all. Cheers for your input bud :hang:

...do they know anything about cars?

Mate I wasn't very happy to be honest and still non the wiser to what power its running as a base line.

What number did you get out of interest and what are your mods we could speculate...

Car is totally standard apart from a Japspeed cat back.

Ill take a shot of the of the print out...

That graph tops out at 6k rpm. Did it change gear then as the graph should peak and then go down slightly to get a Max HP. Was the gearbox in the power mode which holds the revs longer before changing?

Mate in the end I don't know what they did, but like you say the graph doesn't top out. The values of all 3 runs are all over the shop.

I've never owned an auto and the way the bellends were going on, it was like it was a big issue to run the car.

I'm guessing you/they never changed the switch to the power mode then, so it probably changed gear too early.

Live and learn bud. Onwards and upwards

Taken a few autos to the dyno, unfortunately your graph looks similar to mine,

Autos on the dyno generally the graph is whp not bhp, so 213 at the wheels. So for a 20 + year old auto isn't bad, was 280 bhp from factory, will have lost some over time, and automates are quite parasitic so will lose more through there, roughly speaking add 70 onto our auto figure to get bhp. So your about right imo.

My old auto running 14psi, fmic and a remap.... Surrey rolling road would highly recommend them, they did get mine to rev higher.DSC00027.jpg

Is that because the torque converters don't put out the full grunt?

Think they can't get bhp figures because that's calculated afterwards during overrun on manuals I think, something to do with engine braking maybe?

4wds tend to lose alot through their drivetrain too.

In stock trim with a cat back my converted auto made about 280hp. I'd estimate them to make between 260-280 in average condition.

It is right for auto

Thing is if they weren't sure how to run it and didn't do any of the above that has been said, how can it be correct?

Pull that auto box out and go 5 speed...... U know you want to

Just to make sure, the things I've said may not be 100% correct so maybe like Pete said it was done correctly. Idk but just bear that in mind xP

Lets be honest though if they knew what they were doing and things were done correctly, why is there so much variation between whp figures across all 3 runs?

1st Run a high of 60

2nd Run a high of 212

3rd Run a high of 161

Which surely must state that something different was being done across all 3?

From what's been mentioned in here its as simple as Overdrive off, into Drive and off you go. If that was what was being done yesterday I doubt i'd of got such big variations.

If we're saying 210 odd RWHP as appossed to FWHP then yeah that probably is about right. You loose a lot between the engine and the wheels esp in the auto.

Yeah agreed Stephen.
