I was thinking of getting one of these as they've come down in price over the last few years, i remember they were €999 a few years back. Anyway, I can't live without my iphone (Yes, I'm an Apple Head!). What do you reckon both fitment wise and stereo wise of putting it in the Z??

looks good.

I plan to make up a double din unit myself but going to base it on Android.

I have one of these which is a quad core 1.2 snapdragon cost me $75 posted to the uk.

Its a DragonBoard 410C and the picture below is to scale.

And just ordered this :

Which is a 7" panel touch screen display.

The board has 8GB built in and ive got a 64GB SD card for it, and has Bluetooth and wifi built in.

I just need a small external amp with volume controls. :)

Has anyone used an aux cable to convert the radio socket to 3mm jack without a radio as a passthrough? I want to use a 7" tablet in the double din without the use of a radio passthrough.

not sure if you can,

What i'd be looking for is an external amp you can put in the boot but which has upfront digital controls you can mount near or under the head unit.

I prefer an actual control for volume rather than using touch volume controls.

Good idea, i just though it would be less hassle to have one unit to control the whole system, but an amp is probably the solution.

Like yourself, I wanted something that could seamlessly interface with my iPhone. This is the AppRadio 3 which was the release before the one with Apple CarPlay and is unfortunately not upgradable [emoji17]

My main priority was for a unit that will play and navigate my Spotify. This one doesn't do that very well! The software is a bit slow and clunky so I'm hoping they've sorted that out for the model you're looking at.

I did look into upgrading this one to the one you're interested in but didn't bother in the end as this one was not very old at the time.

I would personally not bother with any custom tablet, PC type installation as they're lots of work and a constant headache, I'm glad I binned mine and converted back to a plug and play system [emoji106]

That's more like it :thumbup1: Thanks for the pic Joel, is there any hassle fitting it in the double din as I thought it seem smaller than standard?? Halfrauds have 20% off it at the moment mate... That's £263 for basically an iphone 5-6 in your car:thumbup:

I decided to 'try' an iPhone after my last contract expired. I had a 'droid before that. The GF at the time had just gotten her iPhone and I thought, 'can't be bad, I'll get one too'. I just wished I hadn't. There's nothing particularly bad about it, there are some pretty neat features, but I find the rest of it really quite annoying to use. I can't put my finger on quite why though (excuse the terrible pun). I don't use iTunes, so for me, that's a huge part of the iPhone benefits, I don't use all that many apps either. So I guess the things that make the iPhone 'special' are wasted on me. I find the Android operating system far easier and more slick to use - it just suits me better, probably because I am a retard with electronic gismos.

It's going in March though when this contract is up and I'll likely go for a Sony Z5. :)

Have to agree about iPhones, it's shit how it's so locked down and you pretty much HAVE to use iTunes. Much happier now with my Android phone, playing old games on emulators and copying music and pictures as I like! The iPhone did have the better camera though.

I do everything on my iphone, maybe it's just I'm no good at computers, I don't know what an emulator is Jay, I had a free Samsung when I signed up to my current contract 4 years ago and just got frustrated with it after having an iphone (4s at the time). Sold the Samsung and bought a second hand iPhone 4s again. I suppose it's just what I'm used to, "Can't teach an old dog, new tricks" type of thing.

"In computing, an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system (called the host) to behave like another computer system (called the guest). An emulator typically enables the host system to run software or use peripheral devices designed for the guest system."

Basically, it means I can play old Nintendo games and such on my phone :w00t:

When I had an iPhone I jailbroke it just to be able to do what android could do already. Lol

Yeah, that works but it's a bit of a problem if you have to send it back to Apple for any reason!

Yeah, it was very buggy and became slow. After 2 years of ownership I just decided to get an android phone instead.

Back on thread however could I ask if there is a wiring diagram or something I can use to splice the head unit plugs so I can make it to an rca plug?

Or is there a simpler way other people have used to connect units like the appradio 3?

Connectivity is just like any other headunit. Normal speaker outlets and RCA Preouts. You can connect your phone to the unit via the cables or Bluetooth.

The unit size is standard double din, no issues fitting it. The price was my main reason for going ahead with it was very good for a system offering all the bells and whistles including sat nav.

I may sell my AppRadio 3 and replace it with the 4 soon [emoji106]

I know you said you wouldn't recommend a tablet conversion but to save some money could i use something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alpine-4311-Car-Radio-Speaker-to-RCA-Converter-/231494636555 to plug into a tablet?
