I know we spoke of this Z before (silly location of the fog light) but looking at it again it has a few extras that the seller has missed or he just knows very little about these cars. It has a very nice Nardi steering wheel and take a close look at the rear side windows.

Looks like a very nice car, later spec interior with alcantara and the arm rests. A good buy at 4K, in a few years time I'm sure it will be worth conciderably more

Dead right Dougal its a SWB TT with low miles and manual gear box. Well worth that money all day long. Infact its a bit of a bargain.

Very local to me, this one. I might go and have a nose around it... :)

Gear knob letting it down:)

I'll go in my Zed then and show him my stuff - see if he wants that knob freshening up

I've emailed and phoned them 5+ times and they never get back to me about this car. Think either something is wrong with it or they don't want to sell it?

Strange as they should be keen to sell all stock. Mondo will get more info if he pays them a visit.

I've been asking specific questions about smoke on idle/boost and things. Been wondering if it's those they don't want to answer?

It's not showing anywhere on their official website, which is strange. I'll have a wander over this afternoon and see what (if anything) I can find out about it :thumbup1:

Just got home from having a good look around this Zed. I'll start with the good points :)

Good points:

Factory manual

Alcantara trim is in good condition

Altia quarter window shades (working) and tail panel (not working)

Larger SMICs fitted

Aftermarket exhaust

Nardi steering wheel

Turbo timer (if you like that sort of thing) on top of steering shroud

Electric Hicas

Targa blinds present and fitted

Bad points:

Engine runs like utter crap!! 5 cylinders at best. No amount of fiddling with connections or wires seemed to help. Really struggles to build any revs whatsoever beyond idle

Mammoth boost leak! Boost gauge sits in the positive vacuum scale on idle!

Some blue / white smoke while idling

All roof trims, windscreen trims, scuttle panels, and door edgings are shot to pieces

Paintwork is pretty old and tired-looking

Passenger seat electrics not working at all

Driver seat electrics, only forward and backward movement works

Sill flanges bent on both sides of the car

Perspex panel is a lovely shade of burgundy

Alloys badly kerbed and scuffed all round

Front brake discs carrying a bit of a lip

When I fired it up, the guy said they had a set of plugs on order for it. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it had the world's biggest boost leak. The idle hunted significantly and the engine just sounded quite poorly, presumably due to it running on 5 cylinders and having said enormous boost leak.

Structurally, it looks and feels like a solid car, but the running issues and general tattiness when you look at it would dissuade me if I was in the market for a Zed. I think there are better examples out there for similar money.

There you have it. Some nice bits fitted to it but, overall, I don't think it'll sell any time soon. The difference between this Zed and my own is staggering!

But - Did you show him your knob lol.

I showed him everything.... ;)

Kinda adds up with them not wanting to respond to me asking how the engine is then. Might be a shot turbo if the needle is 0/slight positive?

I've edited my original post as you've just reminded me about the smoke from the exhaust whilst idling :)

LOL ****ing car sales ****ers. Rather than tell the truth they'd rather say nothing. At least they have some spark plugs on order lol

At least they have some spark plugs on order lol

And that's the important thing... :dots:

If it was a Supra, then it'd no doubt be worth £4k as it is, considering their current values. But I honestly believe that there are better Zeds out there for the same amount (if not less).

Some of the issues are purely cosmetic, but they still cost a fair bit to put right properly (as I personally know). And the engine issues... well, I wouldn't like to speculate on what's causing them. Although I don't think new plugs are going to make a great deal of difference!

Does look like a nice car. I don't actually like those add ons. The steering wheel is nice, but I've never liked those illuminated 1/4 windows. They're just a little too 'Tijuana brothel' for me and those wheels are miserable.

Great car under that though, looks well cared for and straight. A very good buy.

Have you read my assessment from this afternoon...?

Just have!

I was viewing it from my phone earlier from the London Underground, not easy at the best of times. Leaving the BBC studios during rush hour, had me looking one way and at the phone at the same time!

Nice post there Si (Mondo) - thanks for the update mate..... As Gary and Si (Funky) said, looks nice in the advert; but there's no substitute for seeing it in the flesh.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
