Being a bit of a gauge watcher, I have always marveled at just how quick my boost gauge would show positive boost.

In fact, it used to be quite difficult to drive her and be below "0" under most conditions.

Up until lately she would pull vacuum on over run of -13/14psi and hit +14psi with no trouble at all giving a real smooth and yet powerful response.

Of late however, the gauge and performance of the car has suddenly changed.

I first noticed that in first and second gear under mild acceleration up to around 4000-5000 rpm, the boost gauge hits the -7psi and starts to bounce, it's only if I hit the accelerator hard to the floor does she get to +14psi but not for long.

The power delivery has also changed, where as initially she would give a gradual yet powerful pull from low down the rpm range through to 6500 rpm,

She now gives a pronounced kick later on around the 4000-5000 rpm. Quite noticeable I might add.

Strange thing is though, if I am dawdling in 3rd/4th and put my foot down moderately, i do get positive to max boost virtually straight away, albeit feeling under powered.

I would appreciate any thoughts as to what you guys feel the issue/issues might be.

I would add though, other than this, the car runs like a sewing machine, idles, starts every time etc'

Can't help but notice that some very eminent members have taken the time to view my post.

Any ideas guys?

Hi mate

First thing I would do is check for a boost leak. After that get it plugged into a consult.

I would also strongly consider the standard recircs if you still have them fitted.

Hope this helps

Hi Dougal200

Thanks for the advice, I was beginning to give up on any help being forthcoming.

I will sort out a boost leak test shortly.

I do have the original recircs fitted, they have covered over 133,000 miles.

As for Consult, I do have DataScan, would that help me?

If so, what would I be looking for?

Thanks mate.

A good boost test and fix will probably sort it, that or the recircs.

With the consult or data scan I would be looking for tps voltage, fault codes, temp sensor and I'd use it to confirm the timing is still correct.

If you post a screen shot at idle once warm then I'm sure there will be some helpful comments.

Testing recircs is tricky, they all leak a bit. Personally I deleted mine.

It's not so likely though as you are still making good boost

Again guys, thanks for you advice, and apologies for my lack of progress.

(sulking I'm afraid)

As I started to explore the suggestions put forward, my mind drifted back to an incident that occurred a couple of weeks prior to this issue.

In brief, in a moment of brain fade, I inadvertently drove forward over a kerb!

After looking underneath the car, I noticed that she had grounded out on both chassis rails, not to much damage, but enough to scrape the under-seal and paint off.

However, looking closer I noticed that my down pipes protrude lower than the rails and that the were signs of contact.

Could I have disturbed or damaged something that may contribute/cause my symptoms?

(God I hope not)

Thanks in advance.

I would 1st check the lower intercooler pipes have not been disturbed by the kerbing..

Do a boost leak test. The end tanks are plastic, you could of cracked one.

Intercoolers are a good shout. Did you ever check this on datascan or do a boost leak test mate?

I have checked the inter coolers and the relevant pipe work, everything looks in tact I'm sorry to say.

Looking at their relationship to the down pipes, they would have run clear over the kerb. It would be anything after the front wheels once they dropped over the kerb that would have collided. My fear is that the down pipes took the initial impact.

If the downpipe (and indirectly the turbo) took a hit and was damaged in some way, you most like have a distinct exhaust leak at the very least.

As suggested already, do a boostleak test to make sure you don't have any pressure leaks in the system, as this sounds as the most likely cause of your problem
