Just bought a replacement stereo for the 300

I've been on the lookout for a suitable replacement for this

Managed to pick this up-

It's supposed to be unused- nakamichi cd45z

I'm sure it will split opinions but it's just the look I'm after plus it has an aux in so I can plug my phone in.

I agree. I've recently looked at changing my double din for a single din unit; until I saw the choice of designs available which all look rediculous! I like it, nice touch [emoji106]

Nice Nakamichi head unit..... I used to have a full amplified setup years ago..... was given to me by a car dealer when I removed it for him..... free...... lol

Thanks guys

Any recommendation on speakers?

I also have a Genesis 6 channel amp kicking about, I don't think I'll fit it though. Might put it up for sale to fund some for my next order from z1

It all depends on the output wattage of the head unit and your budget??

On my previous Z I upgraded the stereo with focal component speakers up front and I bought a focal ibus20 active subwoofer which is small enough to be driven by the power from the iso connector on the back of the stereo but still packs quite a punch. Saves you the trouble of running new power wires and hooking up amplifiers and all that.

I remember listening to Andy Isherwood's set up and was blown away by the sound, Nakamichi headunit and focal components and sub, absolutely superb

I built a Sq setup in a primera some years back. Fantastic sound, and why I went with focal in my zx, although slightly cheaper components and not as advanced. Gonna buy the same stuff for my current zx when I'm gonna upgrade the stereo

I've bought and sold alot of nakamichi HiFi gear in the past and the build/sound quality is absolutely superb!

I assume their car audio equipment is of equal quality so very nice mate.

I use the JVC KD-R331. I like it because its got an AUX at the back of the unit and one on the front. The back one is designed to take a bluetooth dongle for connecting phones to make calls and play music, but I run a normal 3.5mm cable from the back, up the inside of the dash and out of the front windscreen vents to my phone in its windscreen mount. The stereo then plays whatever sound my phone is making (music, satnav, calls, even Cortana reading out messages to me!)

This way there are no cables running around the cock pit especially as I have run the USB charging cable for my phone up the same route from the cigarette lighter socket. I have run a 5M USB around the dash, up the door pillar and across the roof to charge my dash cam, but at the moment the dual USB im using cant charge both at the same time, but im going to have to hard wire the dash cam into the ignition.

I think for my needs I'll just be wiring up the aux in and some power to an iPhone cable. Like you are doing so that sat nav etc can come through my phone or ipad
