Hi all! Sorry if my first post is a cry for help but its because of this problem that ive registered to be honest but i'll stick around for a bit, honest!

Aaaanyway, got a 300zx that someone had attempted to "bling up" with boost/oil pressure/temp gauges and putting white stickers over the black clocks etc, im sure you get the picture! lol. Removed all that but in removing the fuel gauge sticker I had to take the needle out, this is where my current problem began because re-inserting it and turning the ignition on results in the needle going all the way up and past the full mark (if only it were true!), tank has about a quarter in.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

Does the needle move freely ?

I done something similar while I removed all my needles and the only way to get it back on

and to be more or less accurate is to have a full tank of petrol.

With a full tank and the clocks dismantled partially; remove the needle and start the engine.

Leave it for about a minute so that the spindle rotates to it resting position then slowly push

the needle on.

To test it turn ignition off and slightly push need lower than it should then start ignition.

The needle if working should raise back up to the full level. :)

Welcome to the club.

did this to an MX5 MPH dial, replaced in wrong position +20MPH out!

tank has about a quarter in.

If you think that's the case then without the clusters plastic lens fitted put the needle in that position, no need to push fully down as you'll be best tootling about for a bit trying to gauge what fuel you have in relation to where your needle is sitting.

Welcome .

fill up the fueltank and then (re)move needle to full to full mark.

Thanks for the welcome guys!!

I get it about filling up but before I did that I threw the dice one more time and tried something else, as the needle was going up I popped it off and reinserted it lower down, had to do that twice before it started to slow down, then once more at empty, it then rose, very slowly, to just over a quarter and stayed there, if that needle goes up when I do throw some happy juice in it, then jobs a good un I reckon!

Next is an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that I may have attempted something foolish with, but i'll start another thread about that!
