Double din fascia

So I got a double din fascia from interior innovations. First off I'm not particularly impressed that my head unit doesn't actually fit, it's too big. Over £100 and I'm still having to file down the sides, and I'll have to bodge the units surrounding plastic finisher thing to get it to fit even when I do get it in.

Anyway, I also got sent these two (rusty, again not impressed though it doesn't really matter) metal plates, but what the hell are they even for?! I can't seem to find a single way they fit the fascia that makes sense.

Any words of wisdom our there? But peeved with it all to be honest.

You screw them to the stereo, then they mount into the dash. The left one is the right bracket and vice versa, the lugs in the middle of the pic sit at the bottom and the top section as shown in the pic will point into the hole towards the bulkhead (the part pointing upwards)! Once you get it orientated like that, it should then become clear how they mount. You will need to select the correct holes depending on how you want the stereo to sit. Or as I did, make new holes to make it fit! I agree, all of these aftermarket double centre consoles aren't particularly good quality, however I believe to make a proper moulded plastic piece of OEM quality, would probably price itself out of the market.

Aahhh got it now! My problem was not looking at the car, I was trying to fit it too the fascia, not the car. I didn't think about it as with the single unit I took out the cage was attached to the fascia, not the car and the holes these brackets use weren't bring used so I didn't think about them.

Cheers!!

As Joel says, use the brackets to bolt the head unit inside the dash - although the OEM brackets will be a better fit. No drilling or messing about is required, the OEM brackets old the stereo in the right place

And if you're not using the "cage" supplied with the head unit, it should fit neatly inside the new DD facia without the need to file any of the plastic away - and you'll not need the plastic "finisher" supplied with the head unit either!

My Interior Innovations facia should arrive soon - I hope I get on better with that, than with the Z-thirtytwo version!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Agreed. The ones on the market place at the moment are all made from similar materials - likelihood is they're printed on a 3D printer, then sanded, then finished.

To make a mould for injection moulding purposes, you'd need to find an investment of around £40,000. You wouldn't even recoup the cost, even if the part were to sell really well, thus, we are stuck with what we have. They're not very good quality, however, mine fits really well, I think it all depends on variance. 3D Printing's tolerance is pretty low-brow.

I didn't have any OEM brackets to speak of, must have been removed when the last headunit was put in, that's why I was confused with it as I wasn't expecting anything like that.

And yes now I'm not using the cage I have sanded it down a touch too much, but it's not too bad, it would have needed a little bit anyway as the unit by itself didn't fit either.

I don't think the quality is too bad though, kind of what I expected really!
