It says in the news paper report its a replica, the nose is all wrong and the cockpit screen doesn't look even close to correct, can see the wing shapes but the tail is the only part that looks vaguely correct.

i seen the spitfire engine at the week end yes its a merlin. am trying to find the vid on utube of the tank engine will post it if i find it

Theres nothing like the sound of a Merlin V12 on full song, Legendary British Engineering for sure and a well deserved place in the history books.

Notice how the prop blades instantly disappear! If anyone is watching something like that in the future, make sure you're behind a thick bit of glass.

I know a winch operator who had a tip strike against a cliff and a bit of blade cut his arm open and a bit of slate nearly took the pilots eyes out cutting his head.

Last time... well... one of the last times I was very close to tip striking I saw myself put a visor down, as if that would do a great deal!

A picture that was sent to me after the event, that was no more than 6 feet from any part of the disc and tail to buildings and trees.

It is also 80% scale painted to represent Flt Lt Eric Lock’s Spitfire Mk.V of 611 Sqn. Here is a print of the real EF-Y/W3257:

When you see the two together Andrew you start to see the difference in real and rep.

Yeah it was Gary, the two drivers were not long away from doing some really tasty stuff in Afghanistan in Chinooks and were about to scream into the landing site. I brought it all to a high hover to remind them, we're not getting shot at, lets take it slow. A bit of "left a bit, right a bit..." later we landed, thinking it was 10 foot all round. While the winchman got the casualty I had a quick run round. On the right hand side it was 3 feet. That was one way to get your eye in for confined areas!

You guys need parking sensors for tight parking and hovering Tom

Pilot did a good job, such a shame to damage it like that though [emoji17]

Agreed - it could have been much worse; but the plane is repairable and the pilot lived to fly again. Bloody skilful pilot though; to land such an aircraft in those circumstances....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
