I'm just wondering really, do any of you ever open up the ecu and things to check the solder. Have any of you re-worked the solder or anything?

I'm just thinking, would it help in the day to day running of our cars. Do sometimes think, it's better not to fix something that's not broke though lol

I had to resolder an injector connection on the board as it had burnt out, but i wouldnt go re soldering the whole board you might create issues that were not there before and totally mess up the ECU, its the pacemaker to the heart of the car, would you perform open heart surgery on Neen

would you perform open heart surgery on Neen

If it saved him some money, I reckon he would...!!

:surrender:

The ECU is well made, plus the solder is lacquered over anyway. I have chipped dozens of them I have never seen any reason to touch anything internally, with the exception of the chip being changed.

Other than the occasional injector driver, 300zx ECUs don't suffer any common issues. Some of the examples of soldering (chip sockets, half-assed repairs etc) I've seen over the years is truly appalling though.

for anyone interested this is the method large scale pcb's are soldered these days :

That is one ancient board! lol

You wanna see pick and place machines in full action. Those huge through-hole components would have been manually placed.

Yeh, they are super rapid and the components come off them in a ribbon like sub machine gun.

PCB's like computer mother boards use surface components that go through an oven to melt the solder,

and it tends just to be extremely large components that use wave solder.

The likes of large amplifiers and so on use large capacitors which are manually soldered or wav soldered.

So maybe worth a look as the solder on the injectors just to make sure they're ok?

Surely he needs to start with the basics first!

So are you saying JaiKai that Lee 'Bird' either:-

a) looks like a teletubbie?

b) has the intelligence of a teletubbie or

c) Is so childlike he should be taught by a teletubbie?

I think that was a bit harsh....... I would think he could use this to help....... lol
