So, after all the increased visibility and better aesthetics associated with HIDs, I've finally discovered a drawback to them:

When one of your bulbs blows, you can't just go to Halfords and buy another one! Well.... you can... but they want £60 for a single bulb!!

eBay it is then!

You should e able to get your hands on a Halfords Trade Card Si, I get 33% off any car servicing parts/items from batteries, bulbs, plugs to tools, jacks, socket sets etc.

You can buy full kits on ebay and from a UK seller for around £16.00.

Pair of 5000k bulbs on ebay from the far east, around £6.00.

There is no excuse these days for not having spares at this kind of money.

If I want to change from my current 6000k bulbs to 5000k, is it as simple as just swapping bulbs or do the ballast need changing as well?

Yep just swap the bulbs colour, not a problem .

Nice one, thanks

I bought the 6000K set a good 6 months ago now and they are still going strong. They are better than the stock dipped bulbs, but still not amazing, but for £16 you cant complain!

They should just be H3 HID bulbs, mate. Can't see a reason why they'd be anything different :)

NO !!!

Strictly speaking and so you know and then you cannot say phutumsch never said, you can buy H3c HID light bulbs, they are more money and not sold by everybody, these are same size as the stock H3c filament bulbs, hence obviously why they are both called H3c.

I have H3c bulb HID's in mine and 5000k, they are very good. Previously I had 6000k and H3's, not as good as I have now but still good nonetheless, perhaps the difference/improvement I noticed was more to do with my change in colour from the 6000k to the 5000k and not really the change from H3 to H3c.

But H3c's HID bulbs cannot possibly be worse than the H3 HID bulbs, more than likely marginally/not noticeably better with the human eye, it could well be they are in fact the same but the shield inside and all the gubbins Nissan developed it for a reason and used the H3c bulbs - hope you follow !!

Techy stuff!

Perhaps you should explain the difference between the readily-available H3 bulbs and the less-common H3C ones...?

That's easy with a pic, H3c on the left, H3 on the right, so it's all how it sits in it's housing, the arc of the bulbs distance away from the shield, lens, etc.

As above. The H3C sits in the globe differently. The fitting is designed for H3C focus, so you're going to get more beam-scatter with H3 if you're running that on a JDM headlamp.

Any idea what kind of xenon bulbs came as OEM? They're a bit blue (see pic) so I'd guess about 8000K?

Now that looks sweet Jay, is that your car or just a pic from a Nissan catalogue??
