Hi I'm hopping someone can help me, I'm getting a steering wheel shake at say 60mph when braking gently when I brake harder it goes away???? The shake is quit violent

I had the same thing, turns out I only had 1 spigot ring in the front passenger wheel!

So, fitted some in all wheels and it is a lot better however I do still have a slight shake through the steering wheel at exactly 60mph.... I suspect the wheels now just need balancing though.

I wouldn't expect the blame to be on just spigot rings, or lack thereof, if it only happens under breaking. If it was missing or broken rings, it'd happen over 60-70mph regardless. It's free to check if any are missing or the wrong size though, and if you do need to replace them, you can buy a set for 3 quid on eBay provided you find out what size you need to suit your wheels. Unless you have genuine Nissan wheels anyway, if so then the centre bore will already be the correct size to suit your hubs.

Since it only happens under breaking, I'd be more inclined to suspect the brakes, or maybe even worn bushes that are shifting about under breaking.

Well it does go if I brake harder so maybe the bushes are pushed tighter at that point, what do you think?

Oh yes... just reread the original post... Mine wasn't under braking, just when driving at 60mph. If I went over 60mph then it went away and nothing before I hit 60mph.

I'd probably agree with the warped disk.

Wheel balance, brakes, something worn/loose.

Bit of investigation needed mate :)

Nearly always due to the 'warped' disc syndrome. If your running standard setup, it really isn't expensive to swap out the discs for some cheapies if nothing else just to prove it.

I would certainly look there especially if you're unsure of the last time they were changed and make sure the caliper pistons are working correctly as this can cause the warping along with over indulgent use.

First off though have a quick peek at the tension rod bushes, the OEM ones are silicon filled bushes that can split and leak a gooey mess, I have heard these can cause the wheel to shake under braking as well.

I'm going to be under the z tomorrow then, I'll let you know what I find?

Thanks Stewartthefish you were right the bushes in the tension rods are very bad, ordered a new pair.
