I think I have won a new contract which should be a nice long term engagement for my fledgling firm but will mean a 180 mile round trip each day.

I use my Zed as my daily drive and although I know it will do the trip every day without a problem, I don’t want to pile that many miles onto it (not sure I can afford the fuel bill as well if honest!). So I am on the hunt for a new daily drive, capable of doing the mileage with ease and delivering me comfortably. I also want it to business owner, without being too flash or expensive.

I am looking at £3000-6,000, any suggestions?

Audi A2 diesel, old I know but difficult to fault them from an economy, longevity and build perspective quality. Well within that price range too. Surprising fast for such a small thing, £30 road tax, all aluminium and low depreciation as they are in demand for high milers in the know.

Love it !!! but no....

Volvo S40/S80??

They have the company car look

S40 is really comfortable to drive. Horrible automatic box in the first generation though.

Well the original contract didn't happen in the end but I start a new one tomorrow in Cambridge which is only a 100 mile round trip. Still too much for the Zed as I don't want to put that many miles on it so bought a cheap Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel. Not the sexiest motor in the world but it will do the job.

Honda or Toyota for reliability which is what you want when doing loads of miles.

With the contract value and the price I paid for the Mondeo, if it only lasts a month I can jut get something else. Not ideal but gets the job done.
