PAS fluid leak

Got the Z out this morning and as soon as I started her up the PAS fluid start leaking. Not had a chance to look at it yet but appears to be coming form a central point under the car. Last thing I needed after the cam tensioner went on my lexus and has killed it!

Just after some pointers on where to start looking for the leak. Can't say I am certain where the PAS pump actually is to check it.

Cars!!! :cursing:

It's either the rack seal, the high pressure line or the hose from the fluid reservior that tend to go. Check those 3. If it's really coming out quickly, it'll likely be the high pressure feed.

Cheers Si, I'm hoping it's just a loose hose or worn hose. Had the rear steering locked out last year and most of the pipe work remains so with any luck it will be the a loose or worn hose. However there was bit of sound that suggested it may be coming out under pressure rather than a dribble.

One of my PAS pot hoses had become a little loose - tightened the jubilee clip and washed down the inner wing thoroughly. Seems to have come back.

If you want me to come and have a look at it, let me know. I can diagnose and Jimmer can fix (if it needs it).

The pump is on the left of the engine as you look at it, about 10" down or so, it's the top pulley if the two you will see. If it's coming out in the middle it could potentially be running down a pipe or across the cross member etc, most likely though the high pressure line has rusted on it's joiner and is leaking. Clean up the mess and see what you can see from underneath.

Good News and Bad News!

Good News - Looks like a failed jubilee clamp and a loose hose on the PAS fluid feed to the pump. Just need to get under it to have better look and fix it and clean it up. Then clean the drive way and garage!

Bad News - on having a look underneath I have an oil leak which looks like its the area of main shaft seal. Probably minor as it was done a few years ago and it doesn't get driven for 5 months of the year!
