Hi guys,

So just taken the zed on a 200m motorway trip to brum. All fine last night but this morning it was ticking from the head on idle quite loudly!.. when raising the revs for a few seconds it died down, but then came back again when idling. Stayed like this for 5-10 mins before quietening down... sat waiting for the air pump at moment and it seems normal again.

Oil was replaced at xmas, have done around 4k. Should I start diggin deeper?..

Thanks, W

what do you work on massey ferguson tractors ?

Mostly cars, but yes many tractors/earthmovers/HGV.

Can you honestly say you have never pulled a sump after draining and found a fair amount of oil still in there holding the crap?

so rather than flush the crap out you would rather leave it in there ?

I would happily leave it in there if its causing no problems, the point I'm trying to make is flushing rairly "flushes" out the crap, it just moves it where it "can" sometimes cause more harm than good.

As I keep saying this is my opinion and have seen enough flushes cause problems for me to believe its a risk not worth taking, but each to their own as I have said.

I think it's important people understand the risks involved so they make informed decisions.

Just because its on the interwebz doesn't make it gospel.

speaking from PERSONAL experience doing it on many old cars, turbocharged and not,

I have never had any problems, the cars have always run sweet as a nut afterward ( or as sweet as they were before the flush)

Bad info, the crap if moved to the sump will begin to block pump pick up screen, and begin reducing oil flow and pressure, that's the whole point, and the oil doesn't goto straight to the filter, it goes via the pump first, so any crap which makes it past the pick up screen hits the pump! nice.

So there you have it. Different people have different views with no clear answer. The only advice I can give is change your oil often :pint:

This!

Same here!

It's just some biased info I found on the interweb extolling the virtues of flushing the 1JZ

I have a good friend that has done more oil changes and built & sent more high-spec engines around the world than (probably) anyone on here, and he looked at me like I was crazy. I also have a good friend that has built more engines than most on here, and he swears by it.

I've only done it on my own high-performance turbocharged cars that I've owned, and it's worked perfectly. Then it's followed by an oil change after a couple weeks. When the VG gets torn down for inspection, will post the pics.

so after all this debate, what engine oil should i be looking to buy / stock up on ??

cutty

I have when I worked on plant machinery years ago and on trucks.any engine I find that has sediment in is usually grenaded anyway and that's why im fixing it.

Engine condition?

Mileage?

Usage?

I've run the following, in chronological order:

Semi synthetic 10W40

Fully synthetic 5W40

HKS fully synthetic 10W45

Fully synthetic 10W60

Hi Guys,

Okay interesting points. Can't say I have been convinced either way at the moment. Blue hasn't done it again since that one morning, and the oil still looks golden, but I will get it in for a change shortly.

Noz, if you dont mind; My engine has around 80k, daily driver, and doesn't smoke etc and I believe to be in pretty good health (although yet to be comp and pressure tested for peace of mind)... What oil would you recommend for it?

I think I will just go for a few oil changes in short succession to ensure everything is okay.

I've only ever had good results with engine flushes.

The performance garages I deal with use them as well.

But each to their own.

I've had good results with Wynn's in the past on a C20XE, known for noisy lifters.

All my cars get a litre of diesel in the engine & 30 mins idling if service has been lacking. Works a treat.

Can you illiterate on this please bud as it's got me intrigued, so a litre of diesel as in the fuel, in an engine as well as oil? old/new?

Would be interesting to try if (reads when) I buy another shitter (day to day ~£500 car) thats more likely been stood.

Hi all, to bring an old thread back from the dead a bit... ‎

Summing up previously I did a couple of oil changes with decent oil, and is has been good all summer. Probably only covering a few hundred miles really. Last night drive 50 miles and everything was lovely, I park it outside my house on a bit of a hill (facing up the hill). This morning I head to the station (5 miles) and when I park up I notice it is ticking pretty badly! There is also a very slight knock although I can't tell if this is just resonation from the exhaust.... :( *‎

Could this be oil starvation of some sort from parking on a hill?*

I live and work near Southampton, who would be a good shout to take it to for a health check?!... happy to go some distance but want this checked out now as it is making me paranoid :(

If it's only just come on all of a sudden, it's likely that it's one of the hydraulic lifters especially if you've only done a short trip.

As above though, Jimmer at PowerZed is the ideal person to take it to.
