I know, budget questions not allowed, but... I know of no more cleverer bunch of people around, so here goes...

 

If this govt makes a budget proposal now, if they don't get in power in May, can the new govt throw it out or are they bound (no pun ) to accept it. or if they like it ..keep it.

Basically, the finance bill must first pass through parliament before it becomes law anyway - so it could still be voted out even before the election.

 

But if it does come to pass, then any new government after May's election can still elect to make further changes - or indeed issue a new budget proposal after taking office. So in reality, if the Conservatives do hold onto power, they would most likely stick with today's budget - but a new government might well revise it with one of their own!

I genuinely cannot believe anyone would vote labour. Not only have we just come out a terrible recession they caused amongst other things their current front man is an imbecile. If that pink bus convinced you go ahead vote labour but your memory is very short.

Who will I vote for? Well it won't be labour obviously, the temptation to make a protest vote is high but that just seems to help who didn't want get in the back door via coalition. Ol' Dave isn't my best mate but I think this end of the shitty stick is better than the other. What is really like is to trigger a vote of non confidence and force the over paid monkeys to go back to the drawing board and make some real changes.

I'm guessing the help to buy scheme was what excited you?

It's been a long time since I saw a story about some scrot with 8 kids getting £40,000+ a year on benefits for sitting on their arse and or breeding like rats. Or stories about illegal immigrants being given 6 bedroom mansions to live in.. Yes the past 5 years have been tough on us all but at least things seem to be getting better.

Despite the biggest tax take of any government since the days of Cromwell, Labour managed to spend all this countries revenue on new build projects for Schools, Hospitals and MOD contracts, that all ended up overspent and under target for the numbers of projects to be completed. They sold our gold reserves to balance the books at the lowest point of Gold value and handed over the government coffers with a treasury note saying, sorry, there's nothing left.

 

The Muppet who stands to be chancellor was the policy aid to Gordon Brown during this whole period and were totally complicit in allowing the banks and building society's to maintain a false inflation in the housing market and uncontrolled credit lending despite all the public warning of an inevitable crash. If you think Tories panda to the Banks, well it was Labour who wined and dined them and then capitulated to their demands and allowed complete deregulation so they could manage themselves!! look where that got us in 2008/09!

 

They introduced more Quangos and committees to monitor all the Quangos and committees originally setup to run government departments and public services, put layer on layer of controlling bureaucracy onto our daily lives let alone the most surveillanced country in the world... so much for a free and democratic country!

 

In five years not a single member of the opposition directly or indirectly involved in this period of Government has come forward to say sorry to the people for bringing our country to the brink of Bankruptcy, and yet they have contested every step of the way, the reforms made to try to bring this country back to it's feet.

 

I speak as someone who is still heavily suffering from the damage done to my business during this period and every day is a fight to keep my head above water, but despite the obvious restrictions a coalition party has to implement policy I think overall in the time frame and given the recalcitrant nature of recovery during those first few years of this Government they've done a remarkable job.

 

And what was Labours response to the latest budget...they didn't have one!, they have agreed they wouldn't change anything in it and why? because they are clueless, lead by an idiot and a shadow chancellor that's a complete Balls Up. Bereft of their own ideas and shadow front bench that would send this country back to the dark ages within two years of office! It won't be can the last person leaving Briton turn the lights off, it'll be shut the gates as well.

Beautifully put. I honestly think they should lower the voting age to 16, why? Well because firstly it's crazy you can pay tax and be considered old enough for sexual consent but you can't have a vote on yours or that child's life but more importantly it encourages discussion, you will talk about it if you are able to participate. Get people into the habit young, get them interested then they will actually engage and participate. Too many of us don't vote and it's not for laziness(not all anyway) it's due to disillusionment and disheartenment.

This general election will be the most interesting - in Scotland especially - for decades., more so than the indy referendum.

It's generally been a traditional Labour stronghold and so far it looks like they will be wiped out at the election by a massive swing to the SNP. It will be riveting viewing!

 

And the older I get the more cynical I think I've become. As Mark Twain put it- "If voting made any difference, they wouldn't let you do it!"

Dont forget - the conservatives and a large proportion of LibDems voted for deregulation of the banks and opening up of the financial markets to easy credit etc and some of the current front bench were in the financial industry and making a bundle during the high times.

 

It's widely accepted that no matter what party had been in government, we'd have ended up in the same or similar position. I read somewhere that the only country in Europe that didnt experience recession was......Poland!!

That's because when your rock bottom industrially, democratically, socially, there is no where else to go in a recession but up.

 

So they all came over to the UK instead!... At least many of those now contribute fully to the UK economy, so all was not lost.

Not really. The Polish builders and plumbers and joiners came here and during the recession....those jobs in Poland were filled with..believe it or not..Germans...what irony. Work opportunities dropped back in Germany and the Germans went to Poland!!

However a quick google seems to show that Uk'ers are worse off now than in 2010 (figures seem to depend on who collated them; Labour, lib dems, BoE, etc) Everyone I know down here (in this rich, tory, landowner part of the country) seems to want the torys gone. Worryingly (and this means a lot to me as im married to a non-EU national) UKIP seems to have pulled the heart strings of a lot of people, especially young people. A few people (myself included) want to vote labour, just to stop UKIP or a UKIP/tory coalition happening.

 

I have been left with a problem though. I refuse to vote UKIP on the grounds that I think they are racist and biggoted and I think leaving europe would be a huge mistake. I refuse to vote tory because of what they put my wife and I through to move back here. I cant vote Lib dem because of broken promises and it would be a waste of paper and I dont really want to vote labour as they dont seem to have a proper plan. I wont vote green as I love cars too much and some of their policies are damaging to my hobby. Suddenly I can see why people cant be bothered to vote any more.

 

Unfortunately politics in the UK seems to have turned voting from "voting for who you like/agree with" to "voting to keep the worse party out".

 

Whoever you vote for (and I refuse to start an argument here!) please do one thing: GO AND VOTE!

1) If you dont vote, you cant spend the next 5 years moaning about politicians/policies/etc

2) Politicians want people to not vote. Having lived in a totalitarian dictatorship (China) for 10 years, trust me we need to keep our democracy.

Not that I've "Google-searched" it, so I'll take your word on it; but that is certainly factually incorrect and what "evidence" there is appearing on such Google searches is most likely anti-austerity propaganda. From what I have seen in the last 2-3 years myself is certainly positive....

 

2- Everyone you know, granted; but do you really know the millions of people in your area/parliamentary constituency and their thoughts? I hear the same thing here in The Chilterns - yet even with HS2 looming above us, Buckinghamshire still remains a Tory heartland. I suspect the same is more likely the case where you are as well....

Not only do you lose the right to complain about things if you did not exercise your right - but in order to preserve democracy, it's essential that we all do our bit on the day. 2- I only know a handful of people and they are similar to me, I didnt claim to know all the people in my area and i think i did say that where I live is a big tory area with lots of rich londoners living in country home and wealthy landowners/farmers.

 

3- im glad you agree that voting is important, I watched "the idiots guide to polictics" on BBC iPlayer. He makes the point that people are willing to pay £££/min to vote on X-factor/american idol/strickly, but they cant be bother to vote for thier freedom. Its well worth a watch and seeing "Ol' Nigel" dressed up as a builder to escape the cameras was quite funny! :lol:
