Just been offered a manual tt zed, and all sounds okay apart from a little bit of rust on the rear quarters, though he claims the struts are clean, had new sills last year, etc.

 

Just looked up the chassis number on the MOT history checker, and it exists. Yet if I try to look it up on Nissan FAST, it doesn't recognise it. Cause for alarm?

It recognises one chassis number earlier, and one chassis number later, but not this particular one?

Fast doesn't always recognise Japanese VIN Nos

Mine is a partial VIN in the DVLA system apparently, I know Chris basildon's VIN shows Nissan and an engine type VG30.... but nothing else...... Tried to look up parts the other day for him.....lol

Older VIN numbers and Imports are a very hit and miss affair........ as TonyB says.....

It does tally, since the chassis number after comes up as the same colour as this one, and the month and year of manufacture adds up...

This is the first car it's not been able to bring up for me, so it's thrown me a bit.

Fast is just a programme, it doesn't take much for it to lose a bit of data here and there. There's also lots of versions of it, bet my version twice the size of yours lol... As I made it by combining all the fast data we had at work, as the newer version were missing numbers and certain jap models,

So it's not something to be concerned about. Thanks.

Front suspension turrets, sills,rear wheel arches, behind rear wheel inside bumper (low rear quarter) often missed due to exhaust silencers hiding it, corrosion is like the ice berg, whatever you see is just the tip.

 

Personally I would stay away from corroded examples, they can be repaired like any car but it takes time skill and money to do it "correctly".

 

A welded plate over a rusty sill does nothing for the strength or longevity of the repair, it's just a cover up.

 

Better off finding a rust free body with maybe some mechanical work required, or just some small cosmetic repairs etc.

 

Rust free Zeds that are for sale is a hard find.

I found more, so left it alone.
