Peterborough based, Ben is the name! Non ZX owner though..

Always been a bit different when it comes to cars, I'm 22 and have had 6 cars to date, an XR2i, a mk3 Fiesta S with a 2.0 Zetec lump, a mk4 Fiesta lowered on Capri 4 spokes (surprisingly worked!), a mk4 Escort Popular with 28,000 miles that I used to smoke around in at college, I then bought a 1700 Puma which took the track treatment, and I now roll around in a Volvo 850 T5 running around 270bhp sat on a set of S80 wheels.. 20150110_151408_zpsnbs7qbjx.jpg

Without spending a wedge on internals, I can't really go a lot further with the Volvo, plus I've had a real hankering for some 90's turbocharged Jap goodness for a while!

So, plenty of questions, I'm sure most have been covered so the search function will be getting a hammering.

Looking forward to speaking to you all.

A quick question first, what's a rough price guide on TT ZX's?

Ben.

Hi welcome. It depends on how much you want to spend and how much work you want to do yourself £1500 upwards. Should get a nice one for £2500 or more if you can.

Hi mate, that is a fairly gangster looking volvo :thumbup1: Welcome to the club, I hope you find what you are looking for. A zed can be a luxury cruiser, a sports car, a track car, drag car, sort of a drift car but not so readilly. But they are always a beautiful car and never a dull one.

Welcome Ben. Love the T5!

Good TT manuals are becoming very hard to find now. Ones without half a boat grafted onto them or are hanging apart from the seams are starting to command a premium. There are a LOT of tatty ones about and/or horrendously modified ones, so take your time and choose wisely.

For a super clean TT manual from an enthusiast, you'd want to budget for at least £3.5k - £4k. Personally, I'd pay a lot more for one in tip top condition.

2.5k for a nice TT manual? I'd say you wanna add another £1k minimum before you start finding ones that are in good condition.

Well said Tom and totally right.

Welcome to the nut house mate and once you have Jap you never go back!

I was lucky and found a uk tt not many uk cars around. it was 100% stock I think there is 2 roads you can take you leave it stock maybe change the wheels and cat back you look after it and just service it and enjoy it as it is cheap option least messing about and a happy bank account. or option 2 you start modding more power more every think and its a very slippery slope indeed I am now on that slope now and some times its not a nice place to be. as much as I hate to agree with the funky monkey he is rite here spend 4k and steer clear of junk

Hello & welcome :)

Nice Volvo, I've been looking to get into the Swede mapping side of things (along with T5/T7 Suite for Saabs) for some time now.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, always nice to see an active forum.

Ah I'll always have a Volvo now, I will one day build a 240 with a 16v Whiteblock running silly power, but who knows when!

Welcome Ben. Love the T5!

There's certainly a lot of tat around, they seem to of suffered the worst with shocking bodykits/enormous wings! I'm a big fan of keeping things looking stock body wise.

I'm looking at a budget of around £4000-4500 ideally so hopefully that should net me a tidy one. I was initially looking at a 3000GT/GTO but all the electric aids put me off, ticking time bomb!

Hello & welcome :)

Plenty of room for mappers in the Volvo world, unless you go to Don at Kalmar Union or HLM directly, the only offering really is a generic chip from RICA/Shark/HLM/BSR, which is fine but they tend to run a little rich for safetys sake.

Are you looking at ME7 or pre-ME7?

As for the Zed, unless I stumble across a nice spec one anyway, plans are pretty much all reversible if it comes to selling it, so from what I've read a stage 3 set up is filter, cat-back and a map?

What are the standard brakes/suspension like? I had to put bigger V70 gear on my 850 as quite frankly the standard ones are wildly undersized, and scary at best. Especially when having a spirited drive with a 200sx! That soon cooked my brakes lol.

I've got all the tools for early Motronics & ME7 so everything really. Just waiting to sort out a new dyno so I can spend a lot of time on R&D.

Here in the UK, we don't go by Stages for Zeds. Air filter, cat back, boost increase (15-16psi) and a map will net you 370-380bhp.

Here's a pretty decent one. Ebay rear lights and that rather odd nose panel aside, it looks like a nice example.

Personally with this, I'd fit 99-spec rear lights, remove that rear fog light, re-black the lower part of the spoiler and fit a stock nose panel....possibly would remove the skirts too as it doesn't have front or rear bumper extensions.

This car I'd certainly have a look at. Price is good too.

Blimey, that's impressive for such a mild tune!

That's certainly a cracking looking car, might have a look at it this week, thanks for throwing that up!
