pipe work question

Right.im getting the ashspec 2.5" inlet pipe kit that goes from the turbo on the intake side to the air filter.now this peace of kit cost $395 US.

now i will be going to larger fmic and pipework but do not wish to spend onother nearly $700 us on pipe work .and also on pipe work that ill only half use.and goes aroind the houses. So my idea is to get the intake pipe kit as i said and only the first part of the intercooler pipework that comes from the turbo to the intercooler.this pipe is called the turbo discharge pipe.now, normally the pipe that comes from here is a two" pipe .that joins on more peaces of 2" pipe.now because im having my new tubs fitted soon.it will.be a good idea to replace that one peace at this time.as its a awquard fitting peace.whith my mind two.put on a reducer coupling from 2.5.to 2".for a temperary measure untill i get my fmic. And 2.5" pipe. Then i would be able to replace this coupling at a later date when i make up the rest of the 2,5" intercooler pipe. You follow do far so good.but heres were i triped up.there are two types or sizes.one is a dishcharge pipe that is 2.5" at both ends and idealy is what i think i need. But thetes another thats one end starts at 2" then gets bigger and the other end is 2.5"..now my question is can i just use the 2.5" pipe or is that for larger tubs.

Long winded i know.but thats me.as well u know. Cheers.

Heres a few pics of what i mean.Pipes7.jpg

In tis pic yourll see the pipe that comes out the top of the tub.

in this picture the same pipe is 2.5" at both ends.

14376-1.jpeg

and in the last pic yourll see that the tub pipe side is 2" then it goes to 2.5".so me ask is will the 2.5" both ends pipe fit with a coupling.

To be honest, I probably can't help. But if you're asking is "will the pipe with 2.5" diameter holes at both ends, fit onto the turbo with a silicone joiner?"

Then I presume the answer is yes, because if you zoom into your first pic, the silicone joiner is smaller around the turbo outlet than it is around the hardpipe. Therefore acting as an expander.

I think you've got confused a touch maybe? I know I am. Even for you that was a confusing one  Anyways..Those two discharge pipes are two different ways of achieveing the same thing from what I can see. One the increase in pipe diameter, which is created by the hard pipe itself tapering from start to finish, the other uses a silicone joiner to step up before that hard pipe as it does with the stock system. I'm fairly sure those two items are made by different manufactures but I couldn't tell you if one is better than the other, hence the two different ways to skin one cat. Just ensure you have the full kit or clarify what's missing with the supplier. Personally I would leave that pipe off when putting the engine back anyway and refit in situee giving more room and vision to install the block, refitting it in situee isn't that bad at all.

Here is Speciality Z's explanation for the tapered expansion turbo outlets:

"The newer 2.5" intercooler pipe kits come with the turbo outlets, but they are full 2.5" and still use a coupler for the big jump in size coming off the turbo.

Air can not expand as quickly as the couplers expand and making a quick change introduces turbulance."

So you have a choice of turbo outlet pipes to go with 2.5" IC pipework depending on the size of the turbo's compessor outlet.

Cheers Andrew.i read the information on your link. And because of the turbalence im going for the later gradual one.

you going to run AMS stickers with the amount of AMS stuff you're buying? :)

AMS stuff you say? None of it will fit anyway!

Yes it probably will, maybe a greater chance of there being a quality issue/manufacturing defect but you get what you pay for!

off subject a bit, but why not get it from the original source rather than try to save what is a relatively small amount of cash? Better fitment and more importantly, support the people who develop items for the platform so they can produce other things.

Actually, AMS pipework is renowned for its ill-fitting. We experienced people having these issues all the time on 3ZC. You could term that as poor quality I guess!

TBF though Si, 3zc is like a damn an witch hunt at times. There's plenty of people with AMS parts without issues, the manifolds and downpipes are very popular. That's not to say there arn't issues with quality and customer service but bad news spreads 10xs faster. AMS is cheap Chinese stuff, but tbh very little stuff isn't these days. Everyone bums powertrix and is happy to pay extra but it's still cheap Chinese manufacturered products. There was a thing recently blasting their rads, the rad looks identicle to the Chinese ones sold by japspeed as thier own and how many of us have them without issue? I know of at least 3 lol.

I can see the arguments for both sides, I also agree we should help promote the innovators but I don't think people should be blasted for choosing to take a punt on Chinese stuff as long as they are aware it is a punt. Godspeed stuff is another example, you would get ripped in 3zc and told thier stuff is shit, yet it seems it's ok even those turbos that fall apart so they say, everyone with them in this country no reports of immediate failure. Kind of feels like the tanks are just anti china off the bat.

Most Americans have been anti Asian since the Hondas hit the shores after the big oil crisis years ago and the word "reliability" put the creepers up the US auto world:whistling:

No no, imports arnt reliable bri was your mouth out!! Every good American knows they are full of gremlins...haha.

init Steve:rofl::rofl:

I dont know if its a witch hunt but I understand that there's plenty of Zed guys in the states who are anti AMS. I am neither for or against. AMS are known for copying innovations created by real Z enthusiasts/engineers and this is a real issue with a lot of the Zed community over there. The quality of their stuff can vary a lot from acceptable to comically wrong!
