Did anyone see Wheeler dealers last week with TR6 ? Ed put some waterless coolant into it

Didn't know that existed 'til then

Has anybody any experience of it because apparently it's good up to about 180 degrees and as low as -40 so you don't need antifreeze either

If it's as good as it sounds can you use it in a ZED ?

Basically it just has a much higher boiling point than water, when water reaches it's highest point before it turns to steam it has virtually no ability to allow heat transfer from the engine, if heat transfer cannot take place then the coolant can't carry the heat to the rad for cooling.

But to be honest cooling systems are very efficient nowadays especially with upgraded rads and pipe work in place, and modern antifreezes are very good too compared to the older stuff.

No harm in using it as long as it's ok for aluminium components, personal choice here I think.

Probably a good choice for a vehicle being stored for a while

The question is if it's worth it or not, quite expensive for what it is iirc

Apart from the heat transfer benefits there is NO WATER hence the manufacturer claims NO RUST. That's got to be a good thing.

If you get de-ionised or distilled water with a 50/50 mix of coolant, you're doing as good a job as the system requires.

If you're referring to the Evans stuff, it's been around a while and does appear to be highly respected......

......My opinion, therefore, is not regarding whether it works; but whether it's actually worth the cost when compared to regular water/antifreeze mix in a car that I don't use every day!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

How many litres does the Zed require with an uprated rad and how much would that cost?

One thing to bear in mind is mixing water with waterless coolant:

Evans FAQ - http://www.evanscoolants.com/evans_waterless_engine_coolants_faqs.html

Q. Can I add water to Evans Waterless Coolant?

A. Yes, but only in an emergency. Evans Waterless Coolant is completely miscible with Water, however once

you exceed 5% the benefits of Evans Waterless Coolant are compromised. We recommend that as soon as

possible you refill with Evans Waterless Coolant to regain its benefits.

So if you need to top up you will need to have waterless coolant to hand to avoid degrading the benefits. A

small top up (in emergency) with water means starting over again with WC.

Also, you will also need to completely drain the water from the engine before using WC. I've never tried that

with the engine in place (the engine block drain plugs are somewhat difficult to access) and don't know how

much water would remain even if you did.

The biggest benefit, I think, is that it won't pressurise the system and therefore there won't be any strain or stress on what in many zeds are old hoses and pipes

I looked at this ages ago when I first started my conversion and if memory serves then using the evans coolant you run the system at much higher temps using this stuff so if you have a stock ECU setup you'd need to adjust accordingly. May not still be the case.

Not aware that any of the OEM manufacturers I go into have switched over to this which is usually a pretty good indication there is no huge benefit.

Lol cheers lee!

Will put some pics up in a bit. Its a bit shabby to look at but all the oily bits are back in now, mot Friday.

OK, see if this works, shared a few here: http://1drv.ms/15zIEl8

Some vids on youtube too if you look for 500zx but all really old. The pics are all at different stages too, the one with the 2 green air filters under the bonnet is the latest. Bit of a crap setup but one thing at a time!!

Like the exhaust set up. Some work gone in there credit to you. Ahem from another John Dixon to another.

I keep on Debating on asking Leon to knock up a couple of bits of piping for my car. Just don't have the fund and I recon what I need would be a little expensive

You still got those pea-shooters on the back then?!

For basic stuff Leon's not that pricey, just the really custom stuff like mine but then there was 2 weeks work in just the manifolds...

Pea-shooters??? Pmsl, you mean the big cannons right :2guns: I've got a Veilside evolution on now mate. It's not exhaust work I need, it's the pipes that come from the turbo up the side of the engine to the outer of the 4 front intercooler pipes. Really I need some making up so they fit right.
