Hi

I'm new to the forums and in the market for my first 300zx.

I've come across one on Gumtree which I'm quite interested in (I can't stand the front bumper, but they rest of the specifications look very enticing):

http://www.gumtree.com/p/nissan/nissan-300-zx-twin-turbo-veilside-/1092481147

I've been speaking to the seller, and I was asking him what modifications I need to list for getting an insurance quote. He then proceeded to tell me that it was a Veilside made 300zx and therefore I wouldn't need to list any of the modifications.

From a quick google of Veilside 300zx, and this doesn't look anyway near as meticulously tuned as those. Is this just a modded 300zx, and what are peoples thoughts on this particular 300zx anyway?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

It sounds to me as if the seller's chatting a bit of nonsense, to be honest! I'm going to say it's a standard Zed that's been modified... I'm sure someone will be along shortly to back me up on this one.....

EDIT!

The seller even states in the ad that he fitted all of the parts himself! So you'd DEFINITELY need to declare each and every one of them. But (in my opinion) if he's prepared to lie so blatantly about the car's history to you, I'd be turning on my heel and strolling away....

Ah yes, well spotted!

I guess it'd be best to walk away from this one then. So hard to find a good one!

I think I would agree with the above. My first thoughts were - nonsense. Doesn't mean its not a nice car though.

Its not my cuppa though, some of the kit looks a little poorly fitted and I would think on close inspection it will be far from perfect.

Doubtful its only done 41000miles, they are so easy to clock and being an import doubt he can prove it!

I viewed many so called 'mint' or 'perfect' examples before choosing my current car and it isn't either so take what you will from that.

If its close enough go have a look, bare in mind its been on sale for a month, a real good one IMO will have sold.

Welcome.

Yup - what he said..... There is no such thing as a "Veilside-made 300zx" it's just a regular car with loads of plastic bits stuck on.....!!

Not necessarily - if the bodywork and engine are sound (buy on condition rather than mileage and modifications); then you can always remove any bolt-on [ahem] items that are not to your taste and replace with OEM. With the (bulk of the) newest of these cars now knocking on 20 years old, it is more important to ensure the body is sound and rust-free; and that the engine/turbos/drivetrain have no impending, latent issues. If all is otherwise well, you can negotiate the price down and then deal with the cosmetic bits to suit your own preferences!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Dodgy seller, first thing I noticed was he states he did it all himself.

If nothing else, we can be fairly sure the seller hasn't insured it correctly if he's trying to convince potential buyers that they don't need to disclose mods he's fitted himself!

Rare colour........ yes as it isn't the right colour white for the car......

Badly fitted front veilside reproduction bumper does not make the car made by veilside...... lol

The bonnet doesn't fit flush.... Has it had front end damage?

Why the front bumper was replaced, intercooler replaced and car resprayed?

Drivers seat, leather looks loose....

If this had the intercooler, pipes, clutch, etc done...... You would 100% need to tell the insurance company....

Oh and the 'Got long tax'...... Tax now doesn't get sold with the car..... you will need to re-tax car on purchase..... the law changed...........:headvswal

Where does it say that? Or has the ad been changed? I can see he said he'd done the mods himself

Have a look a this one...

Bare in mind its a slick top (no removal panels and only 2 seats) so might not be what you're after though.

I contacted the seller a month or so ago about coming and viewing his 300zx. I asked for his reg so I could find out how much insurance would be, then the phone fell silent and he said that he didn't feel comfortable doing this and that he'd like to call it a day. So god knows what was going on there!

From what veilside01702 said, it does seem to have a lot of slightly askew factors to it that make me a bit tentative to pursue it!

I can understand some peoples' reluctance to disclose reg numbers to potential buyers - but TBH if you were up to no good yourself, you could still always go view the car and obtain the reg number at the time anyway.

If I was buying, and the car was a fair few miles from me, I might want to do the relevant HPI checks etc before travelling - if only to save me a wasted trip. So if the seller would not disclose the reg number, I might just cross his car off my list and move on.....

You must sound like a rough un! Joking aside, a very strange response although I'm sure you'll get a quote without the registration number.

I bet most insurance companies won't even differentiate that specifically, it would just be a twin turbo manual 300zx!

That is indeed the number plate he gave. Nice detective work!

Welcome to the club Dale and find a good one is all you have to do.:thumbup1:

Thanks, I fear it's going to take a while...

Yer, it was quite a distance to go and view it. Shame, it looks like a good one.

Ha! :2guns: I'd gotten very reasonable quotes for other 300zx TTs that I'd seen. But he seemed taken aback when I told him how low they were which made me want to check specifically with his car's details.

I went an had a look at that car before Christmas he told me that it was gun grey but he didn't like it the front headlights rubber are no fitted properly I never heard it running it had a lot of extras but it was not for me it a had a single exhaust I like the twin exhaust fills the rear out nicely

Just an update on the White 'Veilside' zx. A number plate search showed that the car was a '91 rather than a (as he claimed) '94.

Yeah he made a faux pas there as he has the original number plate on his passenger seat with it on a 'J' plate

Edit:

I think im getting my wires crossed, as it does say its a '91 on the ad
