Hi guys

I've not been around for the last couple months as my car has been garaged most that time and I have been working on a new business venture which has taken up a lot of my time

Anyway - I decided to give the Zed a run today as it has not moved for at least four weeks, and the sun was out, so why not.

She's started first time and is running fine, all was good - until I tried to reverse..... and found I no longer seem to have a reverse gear anymore!!

By this I mean there only appear to be five gears to select on the box now, where reverse usually is the stick just won't move that way at all

There are no noises coming out of the gearbox, the car drives fine (going forwards) and the clutch feels fine

Any ideas?

Rich

Thanks Chris, Jeff

The job is definitely beyond my resources then if the box needs to be dropped to get to the faulty part

However I am confident this is going to be the cause of the problem

Does anyone know if that part is available off the shelf in the UK?

cheers

Rich

No worries, yes the parts are available here usually, saying that Nissan are defo scaling down their UK stock now and so you have to stay ahead of the game sometimes with pre-order`s, lee will sort it for you easy enough.

The kind of part you just need stashed in the garage for WHEN you need it

That link says it's possible with the box in situee, I wonder how tyre that is. It's worth thinking about it, could save you a few quid?

  • Author

Yeah I did read that - the link said it could be changed in situ unless it is seized into the gearbox

The fault on my car is indeed the one diagnosed by Chris and Jeff

Unfortunately Nissan are quoting one MONTH to supply the part

Part No: 32180-33p03

which is a bit crap really!!

I could order from czp or z1 but I just wondered if anyone on here has one I could buy quicker?

Try Mike at MJP, he has a heap of common stuff in stock and can usually get form Nissan EU fairly quickly.

All sorted now..Dont need to remove gearbox.Just n/s exhaust front section and rear gearbox mount and let gearbox drop down slightly(for better access)remove 10mm bolt, spray a good penetrating oil around the split. Then carefully lever out a little.Once beyond the rubber seal itll fall out..

Time taken around 1 hour and a cuppa..Lee
