I Know its difficult to diagnose a ruff engine when you cant see it or hear it!

Last week for no reason car started but was running ruff on idle.

Set off engine seems to vibrate but goes & less vibration when foot off the gas.

Took it for a run Sunday starts no problem still running ruff no missfires. bangs or rattles.

Put foot down, no kick down just a steady pick up of speed, like running on 5/4 cylinders?

Back home no smoke from exhausts just the same running unsteady, no just ruff!! at a 1000RPM no rise or fall.

No cooling problems no wiffs or puffs of smoke, oil pressure water temp all ok?

Why all of a sudden? not change or tampered with anything, not wet, MAF cleaned air fillters clean. All connecters clean!

My discription might be useless & sorry if it is but any ideas as to the cause? this appears alot of nothing looking at it now!

have you pulled the coilpack connectors to see how many cylinders it's actually running on?

No sir, dont know how to do!

Sorry Jaffa Im a clinician not a mechanic!

But better start somewhere. I know it has been running rich as exhausts are black!

The coilpacks are they individual held in place by looks like 10mm bolt?

Im thinking theres six! right?

:) yes, the ones held on with the pair of bolts each, but you can just unclip the electrical connector. You should hear the engine note change for each one you unplug (one at a time mind!)

if it doesn't change, then that cylinder wasn't doing anything and you can troubleshoot from there

Now that to me is great! I take it he knows Zs?

Do you have a link?

Phoned the garage today about my Z!

I requested them to fix what I thought a missfire & compression test cylinders.

Compression test done & all cylinders are good.

All coil packs are good but engine still same & it's no 2 cylinder?

They say it could be an injector, electrical? Or ECU.

Can an injector just fail as my engine was running fine 2 hours before?

They do tuning & r Nissan importers (skylines & Evos) but they don't have consult diagnostic!

Any ideas guys

Get a long screwdriver put the end that would touch the screw on the injector and the other end put your ear on it, listen if its clicking do the same on all the injectors, get an idea what they sound like...

Could be an injector or the connector is dirty...

have u got a volt meter put it on resistance (ohms) then test the injector without the wiring connected should be somewhere around 14.0 ohms,

Check another injector to be sure...

the garage should have a noid light to put in the connector that way they could check if the fault is the connector or before it...

hopefully u get it sorted,

I can't advertise on here but if u get stuck my number is 07476926015 if u cover my fuel i will take a look for you for free ...

They can tell wether the injector is duff or wether there is a power signal going to it? You could teach yourself and execute that in 10 minutes flat.

Hi all, I have contacted Terry. Thanks for the contact number.

SVA Imports have had my Z since last Tuesday!!

I have had to phone them three times to get any info.

My problem appears to be No2 cylinder with an injector fault!

I am collecting my Z tomorrow still not fixed but have a possible cause.

If this be the case, & is a faulty injector? Do I get them all done? Replace No2?

Is this a plenum off job which I'm hoping Terry will talk me through.

You should have gotten a full & complete diagnosis from where you took it to.

I hate stuff like that, I expect a cause and rectification quote and I don't expect to chase the garage for news. Time to take it to someone who knows about z32s, generic jap specialists are never much cop for these cars IMO.

Do yourself a favour and clean up ALL the harness contacts that go to sensors, injectors, coil packs, MAF and so on.

How hard is it to use a noid light and/or long screwdriver?

In all honesty, apart from the Zed's penchant for crispy green loom connectors, there isn't much difference from a Zed to a 200sx or a Skyline.

Other than the manly torque levels of course :wack:

Totally agree, which is what makes it even more annoying. The same principals apply many parts are similar if not the same. it's almost as if many places just can't be bothered. It's a daunting engine but the same rules apply it's not actually that complex.

Thanks all for help & advice so far!

Got Z back home!

Garage report; check compression all cylinders between 125-130 psi

Check ignition coils; all ok

Check wiring to coils & injectors; all ok

Suspect No2 injector to be faulty as cylinder is dry.

Terry has offered to sort it!

Low compression across the board. Where does the CAS sit in respect to the bolts and slots? Did they check the timing?

Noz, Thats all that is typed on the invoice!

The chap went out the back to ask about the figures because I ask for a print out!

Nothing after your full stop is mentioned?

Not even an impedance report for the injectors or individual compression results.

I prefer the places that just flat-out refuse to even look at a Zed in the first place :D

Get it to a recognised specialist, although it will hopefully be something nice & simple anyway :)
