Very nice cheap as well for a Ford. Could live with the left hand drive for that money as well.

Wrong engine IMO, I'd only consider put one of them in a Capri because its easy, and cheaper than making the 2.8 to 200+ hp. But its a big heavy pig iron bottom end that makes ~230whp. So many better options that would be lighter and keep the overall balance of a mk2 whilst providing better power than the engine out of a Granada. My mate had a Capri with one as it was pretty quick, but my other mate had one with a Chevy v8 that went in almost as easy thy was hooligan f

Mk2+ dutatec/zetec/Honda s2000 engine way more win than the 2.9 cosworth. My favorite cossie block is the 3.1L GAA lump, that's a fed v6

Old school Ford? Yessssssssss!

Not a Ford Capri.... but a CC Racing Francorchamps Capri!

Actual serial number FC003 for a series of 6 ever made.

Essex 3.1L V6 engine prepared by Neil Brown who made the engine of the 1978 24 hours of Spa win.

The car was reconditionned in 1999... and publications are from Classic Ford issue January 2003.

This car is the actual one in my garage, and was on Spa Classic 2012. :cool3:

Seems incredible the money some old Classics 70'2 & 80's now fetch.

For some cars, which were laughable in their failure as a mode of transport, the desperation for collectors to find the next classic and running out of decent affordable automotive choice (such was the 70,s & 80's) that even the Dagenham dustbin range are supposed to be desirable...and don't get me on to Marinas, and allegros etall!!!!!!!!

The Capri was the dullest and poorest handling "sports" coupe in it's day, with the exception of a few specialist models!

and don't get me on to Marinas, and allegros etall!!!!!!!!

Don't worry yourself too much with what BL produced in the 70s and 80s, most of it hasn't appreciated to the levels we see of Fast Fords and Classic GM stuff. BL vehicles were the shittest cars on the planet and most people still think the same. My favourite car to 'hate' was the Maxi. Never was there an uglier piece of shit to come out of the West Midlands.

'Resplendent' here in all the horror of its dysentery beige livery.

In fact the only half decent vehicles to come out of BL in that era were the Triumph Dolomite Sprint and the Mini (which is questionable still IMO as they aren't what I'd call a 'good car')

I learned to drive in my dads white Austin Maxi. After passing my test I lost it on a corner on a small country lane and ended up in the ditch. There was 5 of us in the car but we could not get it pushed out so went to a local farmhouse where a friend of mine lived and he pulled it out with a tractor lol. The Maxi was later changed for a Granada Ghia.

Sounds like you did your Dad a favour! They were known for their scrappy handling and stretchy handbrake cables! Not surprised it ended up in a ditch. I would go so far as to say it wasn't your fault at all, but SOLELY that of the Maxi!

I still maintain that you did your Dad a mahooosive favour! My Dad had a brand new Metro when they first came out back in 1980..... :wack: true story! I was only 1 and it was my parents' first brand new car together since they'd gotten married and moved away from London. Dad wrote off his Mini Cooper shortly before I was born - drove it into the side of a cement mixer....as you do! I don't think they kept it long enough for it to rust!...like 2 years I think! BL told him it was 'a car to beat the world' and most of the driving British public ate it up....for a few months until they started rusting out or breaking.

Having said that, as much as I dislike BL cars and I have never been a fan of small cars, looking at a retro Metro Turbo.....they kinda look as good as what else was around at the time. Their competition was the Uno, Fiesta and Nova...

...without the Metro...we'd not have had the 6R4

...and without the 6R4, we may not have had one of the most iconic supercars ever made....the XJ220

Having said that, we all drive Nissans....without their sports car range, their regular range is pretty miserable in itself.

Nissan's own version of a piece of cheese, their quintessential pearl-rinse people mover, the Datsun Cherry.

The Micra...

The insipid 'Sunny', everything BUT its name-sake.

Yes, they were reliable, yes they sold in high numbers and yes, they were fairly well made, but they had all the finesse and flair of an old shoe and have NOT aged gracefully.

You could say that about some of their newer cars too...

Their current Micra looks more dated than the one it replaced! It reminds me of a Tata Indica, which is hardly surprising since it was designed and built in India.

I used to have a 'Datsun Cherry' for removing people who parked over my driveway when i got home from work late..........lol

I used to park it upto my drop kerb and push cars that parked across my driveway out of the way........ and trust me it was daily......

It was great........ cost me £50 with 6 months tax and MOT..... virtually no rust.... unusual for one of these....... Started first time....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
