So this happened on my way home a few days ago and is an advert for good brand tyres especially in winter. I seen some blue lights someway behind me on the Edinburgh city bypass during rush hour (thankfully, meant the traffic was moving slowly when this happened). Glanced in my mirror to see where the lights were now and when I looked ahead again, the lexus in front had slammed on his brakes. When I noticed I braked too but thanks to the cheap rubbish front tyres, the ABS activated instantly under slight braking effectively giving me no brakes and I could do nothing but watch my front end hit his towbar. On the plus side there was absolutely no damage to his car so he's not making a claim and now my job for the weekend is to get the front end off and check what's all broken!

Long story short - don't be cheap with your front tyres and be extra careful now the weather's getting worse..

No joy mate.

I went into the back of a Micra at about 5mph in my first Zed, the other guy got out and looked and said his car was ok and drove away, I assumed (wrongly) my car was also ok.

Half a mile up the road I'm wondering what the strange noises are from the car.

Pull over to find my front dumper is destroyed!

I also had cheap front tyres.

Now it's Pirellis all the way.

These things happen... Thankfully it looks like it's cosmetic damage, new red bumper and nose panel and you will be ok hopefully. Budgets always look appealing but esp when the weather turns it shows what's cheap and what isnt. They don't have to be worlds most expensive tyre just a good reputable brand and equally if not more importantly with plenty of tread depth, expensive worn tyres are often worse than cheap ones in bad weather. At the end if the day tyres are what makes the car do anything without them your stuffed. Lesson learned.

What size do you have?

I have a spare nose panel if you need one I shall send it up to you mate

Got the bumper off and looks like it's just the bumper, nose panel, intercooler ducts and slight damage to the passengers headlight (repairable) so I'm quite relieved! Fronts are 225/40/18, rears are 275/35/18

No problem, I shall check on the ducts tomorrow but I will defo send up the nose panel

18" are pretty common so plenty to choose from. Ive got fàlken fk452s which are great for the money. Don't think they make them anymore though, it's the fk453 now which iirc isn't so highly praised.

I'm in Bonnyrigg/Dalkeith if you know where that is?

Im over in penicuik have a spare bumper if you want it. Its in silver and usual cracks underneath but your welcome to it m8.

Ouch, even though it isn't much damage it still hurts.

Was devastated when it first happened but thanks to the generosity of members on here she'll be good as new in no time and possibly hibernating for the rest of the winter (or until I can replace the front tyres with some decent branded ones).

Huge thanks to everyone who has offered parts, if ever I can return the favour I'll be doing exactly that without hesitation!

I can imagine but shell be good as new in no time! :thumbup1: You get help like this no where else! :punk: Looks like it's going be a while for me :(

Thats a shame mate, at least you are ok and the zed is easily repairable, i dont think you need to spend too much to get some safe tyres, i got Nexen on the front and never been happier, ive had Pirelli Pzero and Flaken 452 before them and to be honest i prefer the Nexen :thumbup1:

Sorry to see that mate - but luckily it just looks mildly cosmetic; I hope you get things fixed up. And it's nice the other driver is not making a claim too - so often today the less scrupulous will bang in a whiplash claim before getting home!!

Good warning on cheap or worn tyres too - remember folks, those 4 little patches of rubber are all that connect you to the road. You may save a few £££s, but decent tyres will save your life one day - I know what I'd do....

Top man mate - and great club spirit!!!

I did have a red nose panel too but threw it away only a month ago....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
