Ignoring my zed's fueling and boost issues decided to carry on with my winter plans,

Trying to decide on the route to go down, now it got a fmic at the moment, but I don't like it it's a cheap one and it doesn't fit particularly well,

So trying to decide if it's worth getting a better fmic, like the autobahn88 ones, or considering going back to side mounts, like the idea of the z1 ba intercoolers and the 2.5" pipe work..

Which would people choose?

Other planned mods are 3" elbows and front pipes to match the pg exhuast, new boost controller, selin dual intake and a noz map.

This is my second zed and is the project, using the na as daily drive at the moment,

I want to do it properly, doesn't matter how long it takes, if I need to save a bit longer.

I eventually want a jimmer engine for it

When u say u went cheap.how cheap and what was it and why not fit. I bought a toyo fmic including all the pipe 2,5 and fittings it was huge.a bugger to fit but it looked well.and never had any issues with it.infact im considering buying another one.and i got change out or three hundred quid.on other dites the same thing was going for seven plus.and it was one peace not an ugly two piece welded together.

Aesthetically I think the side mounts look better, as the FMIC always look like a poor retro fit IMO.

As to which setup gives the best bang for buck and the best performance.......

Stick with sidemounts IMO. Leave the radiator to breathe as much as possible. There is no point in fitting FMICs as there is already a place for SMICs.

There is a place for a fmic too.in the Front.lol.and me personly think they better.and there is no subsitute fo cubic inches.just ask Noz.

And as well as what you have in mind

No, the front is where the radiator is....with that thought process, why don't you just stick yours on the roof! lol

I bought it with the fmic already fitted, and it's the same as the cheap one I regretted fitting to my old zed, did absolutely nothing for performance I fitted it because it looked good and at the time didn't know about better smic , it looks similar to yours spin doctor but wasn't a toyo.

Because thats were i intend to put the oil cooler silly billy

??? No substitute for cubic inches... The volume of the z1 ba smic is more then our fmic. By about 30% been bored at work today, so did the maths, there are advantages for both just wanted to hear opinions.

Tbh I'd like noel's opinion too, especially as I want him to map it after...

Don't get me wrong I love the look of fmic, they look mean, but I want the best for performance,

Be wary of pressure drop. You don't actually need to fit one the size of Wales.

One the size of Cornwall would do fine lol.

In all seriousness, from what I've read the best two things you can do to the vg30dett is change the manifolds and step up to 2.5" intercoolers and piping.

Really regret selling my ams manifolds... Had said I wasn't buying another tt.... Oops.

I only want to buy intercoolers once, so wanted them to be good enough for the later plans, is the no need to go with ba's? Would the reg z1 smic be better?

Ash take a look at these. I have them fitted on my car and the quality is really good. Jimmer was very impressed with them as well.

That's 2" pipework, not 2.5".

I've never said it's all about cubic inches, it isn't. Minimal pressure drop & cooling capabilities are the factors most important.

Ok .if thats the case.then so be it.but why is it that tunning man Noel likes them.

Noel were r you?

??

Thanks, they look very similar to z1 ba's but cheaper, didn't know ams did them

No problem they are the size of the Ashspec massive iirc. Good price I did post some photos of them on here, probably on my build thread

SMIC with full 2.5" piping is best for 99.9% of scenarios

the FMIC design with the long charge face has the most pressure drop (not good), the piping is extended even further (not good), and the restrictive piping from stock IC location to turbos/TB's are still used

the HKS style FMIC is better with end tanks above / below

Twin turbocharged, single intake.
