"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

Stick with it Si, many of us have gone through shitty situations with traders and problems with these cars. You will soon fall back in love with your Zed. Where else would you get such a great club spirit and support?:cool2:

I'd probably put it all in writing then mate & send him a copy. make him believe ur not gona give up easily.

That's fine then mate. Just if you were dubious of them, it would stop being sensible to throw refurb money at them.

I won't be throwing any more money at them now - after how much heat they've been subjected to, I can't say I really trust them anymore so it's time to start saving for some new feet. :(

Oh Fraaa-aaaan...

To her credit, she actually floated the idea this morning of her getting a loan so I could replace the wheels... but the Zed is my responsibility, not hers, so I vetoed that thought.

If they're getting replaced, then they'll get replaced with a nice set of 5-spokes but that is sadly some time away...

It's such a shame with them team dynamics you already have on the Zed si they really suited the car, I quite like option 2 though

My guys friend imports the JR (Japan Racing) wheels, I'll pm you some super secret details and you can take it from there:thumbup:

I vote option 4.

Me too, very tempted for those on mine. However the lack of handing puts me off, they don't see a set as such.

So... Mondo now officially has some brand new wheels....

Oh come on.........do share?????!

I went with my first choice in the end. I like quite simple and uncluttered wheels as a rule, and I fancied a nice set of concave ones... in a contrasting colour to the silver bodywork... and I'm a sucker for a nice, classic 5 spoke design too....

So I went with a set of Calibre CC-F alloys  Fronts are 19" x 8.5" and the rears are 19" x 10" and the rears have a lovely dish to them! The fronts are concave as well, but it's certainly more pronounced on the rear wheels!

Whilst I have precisely no doubt that they won't be to everyone's tastes, I really like them. And that's what counts.

They are going to look EPIC on your shortie pal, they're like a modern take on the Azev's (concave compared to dished) I like them:thumbup: You get the two thumbs up from me:thumbup:

That's a lovely wheel mate!! Should look fab on:thumbup:

See, that was my thinking as well. I spotted the nod to the Azevs as soon as I saw them and, no matter what else I looked at, I kept coming back to these ones. :) I think they'll change the look of the car quite dramatically!

Much better!

Thank you :)

When you getting them fitted?? I expect pics as soon as they're on:thumbup1:

All being well, they'll be getting fitted on Friday. The only part I need is some new badges for the centres and they've already been ordered and should hopefully arrive on Thursday.

Then the refurbed and painted calipers are going on Tuesday morning...

Cheers! Can't wait to get them on, if I'm honest!

Now that's better!

They are going to completely transform your Zed. A great looking wheel and i'm looking forward to seeing these fitted with your new badges!!

See, out of something bad comes something good! You will look at these wheels when fitted and know you made the right choice sticking with the Zed. IMO theses wheels are by far better than the FUBAR'd refurbished ones.

Well done matey.

Teeny-weeny update: I test-fitted one of the fronts this morning, for the simple reason that I don't know what ET the Team Dynamics are so I needed to find out whether or not my front spacers are still required for the new shoes or not.

It seems that both the TD alloys and the new ones are ET35, which means that they'll fit nice and flush. :) And yes, even just changing a single wheel (without a tyre) changes the whole look of the Zed!

Of course, I'd have much preferred not to have wasted £250 on the TD refurb in the first place......
