I've upgraded my clutch line to a short HEL braided item. Should it come down and between the gearbox and starter, or loop over the starter?

Featured Replies

Mine passes down by the starter (outside), rather than between the gearbox and starter

Return it and get the long one, then you delete the fender bleed point and make the whole thing simpler and neater. Then the only concern will be making sure its no rubbing on anything or touching the downpipes.

Cheers guys. By short one I meant the single piece Stephen, I thought there was two Hel types, the short direct like I have and the long that is a single piece but follows the factory route.

I can't believe how cramped it's getting down there with the clutch line, gearbox loom, turbo oil drain and the oil cooler lines. It took me ages to get the oil lines fed through and I still don't know if I've taken them the right route!

Ah you've got the same as me then?

I didn't have to thread it through much, just ran it straight down the firewall. It didn't go anywhere near the turbo oil drain, it's completely independent if the engine so I can remove the block and leave it in place. If I get time il photograph it later.

Found this on my photobucket, I was up to something else so it doesn't show the whole thing but its a start.

Yep, that's the same one as me. Yeah, my clutch line is down the bulkhead like yours, I was just having a winge really about the oil cooler pipes as I'd spent ages trying them through different routes and still wasn't sure exactly where they were supposed to sit. If you happen to be under your car later or have another pic of that area could you post it up to help my OCD? :winkiss:

Clutch line is sorted now ta, if you could show me the area around the drivers side engine mount where the oil cooler lines join and the inside of the chassis arm facing back to the engine from the hard lines, so I can see how it should sit with the gearbox loom that'd be most awesome....

It's not stock anymore bud, the hard lines were removed by some one a few years back(long story) plus you can't see much with everything in the way. There is a black w shaped clip by the engine mount, this holds the flow and return. The filter tree has a take off that us the feed, then it goes through the loop and comes back to a nipple on the sump pan near the turbo oil return. I have two joiners by the filter tree, these allow me to uncouple the oil lines easier for engine removal, leaving a 6" tail on the in and out of the block. May gave pics of that are il check.

Aye, I could see the start and finish points but every time I feed them through they didn't sit right but I've got it sorted now cheers, they kind of fell into place without being stressed eventually. I have no W-clip, is it on the subframe or chassis arm? The only clip I have around there is a small one that holds the alternator loom.

I love the idea for a 'quick release engine'

Gosh now your asking... Iirc it's on the subframe. It might be a left over from an autobox, mines an auto shell. We shall see how quick release it is soon as it's coming out. :)
