I decided to bite the bullet, stop worrying, and sort my engine out. This thread should be a good one, pictures, progress and panic I should imagine. Before the month is out, the car will drive out of my friends garage purring.

Problem one, rough running. Solution PLENUM OFF! I did this in 10 short hours  yesterday.

I am going to check all 6 cylinders have good injectors and good spark. Plus air leaks. And sort another bloody oil leak at the back.

So, the oil leak appears to be pcv related, dripping onto the turbo. More on that later.

The injectors and wiring are dreadful!

So with that and things like temperature sensors I may have to get new injectors and a new loom??? Or just a partial loom advice on re looming please, or just getting new ends or whatever.

My IACV thing is in a state.

I am going to auto sol the shit out of my plenum.

Finish the interior conversion.

Do my white LEDs.

You drove me to this you little red nightmare. It would have been more economical and less stressful to take up some other hobby, like crystal meth perhaps

Hope there is plenty for us all to learn in this thread :) comments and advice appreciated :thumbup1:

I got all new connectors and soldered them on, took a while but the difference was amazing. The car never ran so smoothly.

Agreed !

With the plenum off but everything else in, a full loom swap is possible then???

And yeah, there is a nest of crap down the back of that block.

You are doing the right thing tom I know you think its a hateful red sonofabitch right now but just think about the end result. Your car is superb now with its new paint but with a sorted and blinged engine bay it will be epic.

Remember to get a series 2 ptu installed as well. I had every injector and coilpack connector replaced during my engine work and boy did it make a difference.

Get a list of all the deletes and get them done too while the plenum is off & replace all the water pipes and rubber hoses you can get at.

Since mine was done and the PCV valves changed it starts first time idles at 850, doesn't hunt at idle at all.

Peace of mind is great when it comes to your zed.

I heard mixed reports on pvc delete. About needing a catch can, how leaving it alone is better...

It was the biggest pita to remove during the pull. 4 bolts from hell on the forward lower plenum, 2 each side. I was removing relays from the fuse box just to get a spanner in.

They sell two, one with 9 inches of wire and one with 9 feet :wack: they only had the long one in when I ordered mine.

Im gonna re loom it! I've had a brave pill and I'm just gonna do it :sweatdrop:

So some advice please regarding, looms injectors and ptu. Because the new looms come in a load of configurations.

P.s. progress report all the door cards are off and laid out on the floor for a UK spec to Jap spec seatbelt conversion. And some TW designs arm pads.

Don't worry Si, they will look like Jeremy Clarkson made them  I'll still have a set from you. But just to get the door cards in. I'll need to make a wooden inner bit and measure the mounting points.

Does someone on here sell S2 PTU conversion kits?

If you are having a new loom then the ser 2 PTU fits straight in.... you dont need the conversion kit just the PTU on its own

rubbish....totally block the threaded holes you have where the PCV are and 4 more vents at the cam covers to let the motor and sump vent via pipes down the side of motor..straight to the ozone and no drips whatsoever.Be one of the best mods you do to your engine.

Ok update,

I have found a number of potential problems.

Vtc solenoids covered with oil (old oil I think)

Engine temp sensor corroded

IACV hoses hard, cracked

IACV electricals green

ground strap for fuel rail looks like a shoelace found in the gutter

pcv oil lines brittle and cracking

balance bar O rings can not be re used

throttle bodies BLACK.

injectors connectors green

Split vac lines badly blanked off.

heater hose split

So I have ordered

wiring loom

OEM injectors

consult lead

IACV sfs hoses

PCV sfs hoses

new plugs (bcr8es gapped to 0.9mm and fitted)

Water temp sensor

new vac lines (red :))

Vac line blanks

plenum gasket

throttle body gaskets

iacv gasket

IACV unit

EGR blanks

Pics to follow

My one piece of advice............DO NOT SCRATCH IT! Lol!

New loom every time mate and loads of silicone tube/hoses to replace every pipe etc you can, including the ones that look O.k.

Already scratched the wing if I am honest, I don't think it was me it was a helper's fly :(, but it isn't a garage queen, it has chips and all sorts on it. I do my very best but you can't drive a car balled in bubble wrap.

Anyway, yeah the boost solenoid, there is one each side, I thought it was a carbon canister thing, the left hand side one has an open port on it, should it be blanked off or run to somewhere?

Edit. Those pictures look enormous on my desktop! I promise they were a sensible size on my phone.

I wear a big hoodie (a castrol one ) that covers my fly and I always watch out but I had a helper hauling the loom out while I was in the footwell poking it through the firewall. Think that tallys with the mark on the wing.

Any ideas on the boost solenoids?
