Complete transplant - Where to do this? Parts/Car Proposition...

Hi guys,

I have now bought my old Zed back (Blue 94 Jap TT Manual import). The engine and gearbox are all really good with around 70k on the clock, pulls like a rocket, doesn't smoke at all, but I am interested in bigger power...

So Medallion Man has his built silver Zed for sale, and it has a forged block with all the ancillaries, pipes, clutch etc. Ready for 500bhp or so which is perfect, but the chassis and tubs have gone... So I am playing with the logistics of buying it, and swapping out engine and box into my baby along with some new Tubs .

I have a bit of money on the way so buying the car wouldn't be a problem (convincing the girlfriend I need to have three cars might be trickier, but she will come around). My issues would be the best way of getting everything swapped over and ready for a tune with Noel. Would any places like zedworld or any guys here have the facilities that could aid with this? Of course I am happy to pay for the process. The idea would be to swap my good parts back into the Silver zed and sell it as a project needing welding done for MOT, or do this work myself and sell it on to recoup a bit of the lost cash.

Although if someone else had some ideas or could use the car for parts after doing a swap then I would be happy to do a deal with someone. Like I say the engine etc in mine is a brilliant solid block with good tubs. Always very well maintained with only 20k miles in the last 10 years.

Best regards,

William.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I'm not going to tout for buisness. I have a propersition for him which is free and with club spirt at heart.

Standard engine is fine at 500bhp, which is a forgotten option sometimes :D

Power Zed is close to you, top notch work.

you sure about that ?

as noel says Jimmer @ Power Zed would be close to you

then there are a few other registered trusted traders on here that can do your transplant for you

you sure about that ?

100% mark else I wouldn't have said it, the mere fact you've questioned it is why I felt it necessary to say it. Sad times when you have to cover yourself for offering friendly help. I have a proper full time job that isn't mechanics, I'm not a qualified mechanic so would never expect or request payment for my help.

FYI William is a local member to me, we live fairly near each other and I've given him FREE stuff in the past to help out. I find mechanics fun and I don't mind helping people it really is as simple as that. I hope that statisfies you that I'm not trying to steal buisness from anyone.

The important thing is that the work is completed to a high & professional standard. There is nothing worse than having a car turn up for mapping with build or installation issues. I recommend you speak to Jimmer in this case. I work very closely with him and you will get all the support you need in pretty much a drive-in drive-out scenario, if that is what you're looking for. This would include mapping as I travel down to Bristol for this exact reason.

Not to mention that he is extremly helpful and friendly. A true professional.

Hmmm maybe next time 2 members want to deal, share, play,or work together fixing zeds it might be better keeping your gob shut and using the PM system as it seems people think they have the " Lawfull rights" to picking a spanner up:rolleyes:. Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon i have played the role of TLO so know all the rights and wrongs of traders here and fully back them still but i found nothing sinister at all in post 1 or post 2 and certantly was,nt back door trading as i saw it. Other members might think otherwise and thats fine too.

If this was the one on ebay in Ringwood, I really wanted that, just couldn't get the money in time :(

Looked a good motor

The very one bud. Once the weather is back in spring and were all zeds up il arrange a meet and I expect you will see Williams car and Hellraisers to which is a beautiful example.

Nothing wrong with helping fellow members mate and as Bri has said you have done nothing wrong.

So what's the issue here? Why do the traders automatically think they are getting done out of a job if another member offers his help for another local member, let alone having to justify their intentions!

I am sure we would all like to use the specialists on this site to undertake engine builds, but the cost involved is prohibitive to many of us and therefore enjoying the goodwill of fellow members helps keep these cars on the road!

Bit of lightening up on the traders front I think!

Hold on a moment. I'm a trader on here and haven't thought that in any way, shape or form. Just to ensure I am not caught up in any political hoo-ha, I simply mentioned his best course of action is to take it to Jimmer @ Power Zed, based both on location and experience. According to his original post, he is already going to be using my services (he doesn't have to, there are plenty of mappers out there), and I am not in any way interested in undertaking the mechanical work (couldn't think of anything worse).

I always suggest people use Jimmer for work like this, especially if I have to subsequently work on a car that required major mechanical work beforehand.

Just like to make that crystal clear.

This is the trouble with text, type conversation, you can't see the person or hear the tone they respond in!

Noel, In response to your post, My point was not to attack or condemn anyone directly, and but for the sake of a change in wording, I would have been better of saying "why do some traders" to respond to the thread.

My point is there is great respect for the traders on this site by it's members.

If it was tuning then you are acknowledged as the leading light in this field and I myself would not hesitate in using your services (if still allowed) Lol!

If it was all things Zed!, then ZedWorld would be the best place to go to keep your car in tip top condition! just look at the amount of free guidance given by Jeff in threads on how to DIY you car if you can't afford the Pro's! and yourself on extensive tuning and car setup.

Longstanding it has been acknowledged that Jimmer (Powerzed) builds the best engines for stock or performance (not to the detriment of any other known builder, just that he has track history!

Then there are the more recent and longer established very capable engineers, Lee, Mark etc. everyone knows the abilities of these individuals and the contribution they make to forum chat and assistance in technical help to members, not to mention going out of there way to fix problem cars often with goodwill.

But I don't get why there should be an immediate negative response (earlier in the thread!) to another member offering his help in an engine transplant, who in the efforts to be transparent declares his intentions!

It is the nature of this site and it's members to offer their help advice and presence in assisting with issues other members have and it is that attitude with keeps our forum so strong and while I may be speaking for myself, it is the case that in the real world although we recognise the benefits and indeed would often wish to use the services of the pro's to sort our cars the cost of doing this sort of work often makes it prohibitive. There are many enthusiastic members who enjoy giving a few hours of their time to others and that is the nature or car clubs.

My post reflected what I believe is a common issue and experience, for instance when I looked into getting my engine rebuilt after it gave up on me and was given a guide quote that started at more then the car was purchased for (circa plus £3K)!! So it should not be presumed by "some" or any traders! that because one member wishes to help out with another's car by reciprocal arrangement, then a trader should think they maybe losing out! as the case may well be that they would never have seen the business in the first place.

Being a Forum Trader allows members to choose to purchase the services of a selective few, not an expectation that those services are a right of every forum enquiry!

Don't take this as a negative response, that's not in my nature. I am just trying to get my point across and managing to hijack Williams thread...sorry William!

Suppose I'll be going to Superchips Now!!!..............by the way my engine still isn't running...Lol!

Well, it's still there: "Why do the traders automatically think they are getting done out of a job.....", "A bit of lightening up on the traders front I think". Straight in with it, blanket "trader" reference. Your words are aimed directly at traders posting on this thread. That's me, unfortunately, so I am compelled to respond.

My point is there is great respect for the traders on this site by it's members.

And it's reciprocated, as it should be.

This discussion has absolutely nothing to do with any service I offer.

One post was made, and then it's "all traders....". That isn't accurate, and as I've posted on this thread, I need to make sure I'm not being misinterpreted. That is important to me. I don't get why you posted tarnishing all traders straight off the bat.....

No one has stated that it should be otherwise.

The OP originally mentioned myself as a trader, I specifically mentioned Power Zed due to proximity and that it could be a collaborative drive-in drive-out effort if that is what he was looking for. Still not happy about the "all traders" blanket reference in your posts, so the tone of my text is likely to come across as defensive, simply as I have posted on this thread. I would prefer to delete my posts and keep well out of it in hindsight, but it's a bit late for that. End of the day, none of this is now helping OP, he has quite a few options by the look of it. But I don't want my posts being misinterpreted due to the "ALL TRADERS this & that" stance you have taken, for whatever reason.

Thanks for your understanding.

Anywho...... I'm going back to deciphering Conzult voltage readings. It's 15, by the way.

Yeah it was indeed - I sold it to him a few months ago and then bought it back last week :) He really didn't market it very well though, as It had been a 1 owner since import, low miles, well kept example without any rot, with some nice extras! I am chuffed to have it back though, sorry you missed out ;)

The garage at the moment....

So, I have had some nice messages from people who have made helpful suggestions, and I don't really intent to get involved in the trader debate. I respect that there are probably some rules on here about only touting for business if you are a registered paid trader which is fair, but at the same time this is an excellent community of enthusiasts who are always seen to be helping each other, and I put this thread out on the chance that there might be some kind of opportunity that would benefit other members out here too, whether they be traders or not. In that light I don't think Steve should have any bad words said against him as he has helped me out in the past with advice and free parts, and I would like to do the same for him and other members out there, specially in light of the engine issues Steve has been having recently, I did think of him when I posted this thread. My two cents anyway.

Best regards,

William.

Hi bud I was tempted to purchase med mans car strictly for parts but it wasn't practical for me to do so and my offer wasn't what he would have accepted so if you do decide to purchase his car let me know as mentioned I will buy the few parts that I am interested in.
