Right, I need advice here please! I currently have a 1991 LWB import, twin turbo, converted to manual. I'm estimating the work I want doing to it is going to be around £2.5k - £3k.

Aside from a power steering leak at the back end once, she's never let me down. Tomfromthenorth's been in it and we both agree the engine's been tinkered with a little bit as she has a nice healthy pull on her.

I always fancied the SWB before I bought my current Zed. So my quandary is this: should I plough some money into my 2+2 or invest in a shortie...?

I honestly can't decide!!! :cursing:

Honestly - keep it.

You know it's foibles already. You've driven it enough that if anything was about to go bang, it likely already would have.

You know what needs work and what's good.

If you switch it for a SWB you're starting all over again with what is likely an unknown quantity.

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Its a tough decision that really only you can answer mate.

As lexx said, you already know the ins and outs of your current Zed and what does and doesn't need doing.

If its a shorty you have your heart set on though then that's what your always going to pine for.

The only thing I can say is that there is a limited number of Shorty's and an even smaller number of well cared for ones, so you will have to choose very very carefully when they finally do come up for sale.

I've been through this dilemma several times and I feel your pain. I decided to keep going and enjoy my LWB and have now gone far to far to go back. No regrets.

What are you main reasons for wanting to switch? To build something more competitive on a track? Aesthetic desires? To have a "proper" Z? Rarity?...

Get a shorty. Or plough another few thousand into your current one, and still wish you got a shorty.

Not because they are 'better' but because it's obvious that's what you desire.

Get the version you want before you plough too much money into the current one that then makes it unfeasible to change it!

Have you been in a shorty to personally compare one to a LWB car?

i spent ten years of my hard earned cash and lots of love in to my car, and it was a goy and a great learning curve, but in the back of my mind i always fancied a shortie and dremed of a really nice wide body, so when there was a tinest chance in the world of me getting the right one i just went out and had to have her.if thats what u want go for it. but be prepaired

Consider though that sometimes it's better the devil you know! My current SWB car isn't a patch on my previous LWB car. Well not yet anyway!

And I've already noticed that getting spares for the SWB is definitely a bit harder being a lot rarer than the LWB car.

Decisions, decisions!:confused1:

It's a personal preference thing. No one but us geeks can spot the difference aesthetically and the chassis difference on the road is irrelevant at legal speeds and I really do wonder on track how talented a driver you would have to be to see noticeable differences in lap times.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. I had a long chat with Tom last night and we weighed up a lot of the pros and cons involved, so I'm going to give it some serious thought and not make any rash decisions. :)

I know there's not a huge amount of difference between the two visually. I do prefer the look of the SWB interior and there's not a lot of need for me to have 4 seats... but, as Lexx and a few others have said, I do know my car pretty well now...

Guess I'll just have to keep mulling it over!
