firstly i have 17 inch wheels on car and at the moment have 235 45 17 on front and have 255 40 17 on the rear, thou to me it dont look right i was thinking of 235 40 17 on the front but say 265 or 275 35 17 on the rear.

wheels are 9.5 j on the front and 20j on the rear.

the other issue i have well in the boot was a tiny thin spare wheel , well if i have a punture its not going to be any use to me is it, so im going to need a five spoke cheap 17inch wheel to fit in there, any ideas. any other car makes that i can use as a spare.

oh and any good web sites or recomendations i use to use oponoe but not much cop for the 17 inch wheels ,

cheers

You need to use a calculator to work out what tyre sizes you need. If you use the wrong profile size the speedo will be out. My rears are 265/35/r18 so I'd guess a 35 on a 17" wheel would be wrong.

As Stephen says, you need to keep the rolling radius correct.

As for tyres - buy from Tyreleader.co.uk. Cheapest around at the moment.

20j on the rear... Coooool! I assume you meant 10j and 255 does seem a bit skinny for that. As said use the size guide to play with widths and profiles but I suspect 235/45-17 front and 275/40-17 rear will be about right.

The space saver rear wheel will do just fine, it's only to get you home or to a tyre shop. What makes you think it won't do?

i was under the inpresion that if i had three 17 wheels on my car and the flat one was replaced with fifteen skinny then ill be driving lop sided

Like the guys have said above it's the rolling radius that counts. The space saver may only be a 15" but it's not low profile like your other tyres so the rubber is thicker around the wheel and the outer radius should be the same. You won't be lopsided but it really is only to get you to a tyre shop. Space savers are typically only rated to 50mph and with three fat tyres and one skinny one you won't want to be cornering too aggressively - unless you want to invent a new type of drifting! ;)

right so i went and used your tyre guide thingy and came back with two results

firstly 235/45/17 with 265/40 17 have a diiferent diameter of 0.16 percent

and the later 245 45 17 with 275 40 17 have a difference in diameter of a big fat 0 zero

at the moment the rears looks like there stretch over them wheels and look daft.

the 275 will look good and right but its going to be a nightmare trying to find tyres that size

So the ones that are on there are correct then, at least in terms of overall D. Did you say the rears are 10.5J?

It's a wide arch I believe, that's why the offset sounds quite tastey. 10.5j with ET22 would have done poke on stock arches I believe.

He never mentioned the offset ? I was just correcting the width typo.

Spin doctor are you 100% sure your fronts are 9.5" wide? 10.5 et22 on stock arches is silly in my opinion, it requires silly tyre stretch and silly camber. Purposeful fitment is the way forward if you ask me.

Think you should look for 18"s wheels if you can

I very much agree :) those Blitz 18" wheels that Dan is selling would look b-e-a-yootiful!

Imagining things again lol! He has brought Gruntpa's old car which is a wise arch is it not? Got a full storsk or however you spell it kit.

Affirm. I'm working on the assumption from my memory of seeing the car that there is enough room to widen the tyres a little without fouling issues. For this reason I haven't asked for his offsets and also because I have no idea what offsets would work or not with strosek wide arches on the rear.

Alan my car has has the following:

Fronts 9x18 et+24 - 235/40/18

Rears 10x18 et-31- 275/35/18

Hi all yer i just found out that.on front are 9.5 and 10 j on the rear with an offset of 31mm.so looking at that caculater thingy to match the correct diameter with no difference the fronts would have to be 245/45/17 and the rear275/40/17.

If i left the 235 45/17 on the front ill have to put 265/40/17 on the rear with a diameter readin difference if 0.16 percent

0.16% is within tolerance isn't it? Tells you in that page what's suitable difference wise. Bear in mind the stock speedo is out, so when it says your doing 30 your more likely doing 28 or so, mines more accurate now with a slight discrepancy in the rolling diameter than before, checked and verified by the GPS.
