With the RX8 there is a little thought required around cold starting.

Ignition coils are more of a consumable, requiring changing around the 30k mark, when these go bad, reliability goes bad, fuel consumption increases and power drops. These are really important on the RX8.

There is no timing chain, no head gasket, just essentially one moving part!

You can bang a turbo on these reasonably easy too!

I have always fancied one but I see lots of them in thehe motor auctions and they are generally avoided by the trade unless absolutely mint with low miles. Ive seen 2006 cars for around £800. I should take a punt at that price but they're cheap for a reason.

It's a quirky and interesting engine, it's a far older design than many realise and it obviously extremly tuneable, being able to bolt on more rotors is crazy. I still don't like it though lol.

Yup, my dad paid a fair few quid for his. Looked after it with main dealer servicing etc etc and as I say it just fell apart and he paid to fix and it sold for about £2k. He was gutted.

Genuinely a crap car based mostly around gimmicks and quirks. They took an iconic Japanese sports car threw away all the good things and kept the crap then made it worse. They kept the silly uneconomical, unreliable and unusual rotary engine, reduced it's power output ignored the fact that 230hp for 12-16mpg is in today's climate just embarrassing really. Then they stuck two ridiculous doors in the back which are barely of any use and simply up the curb weight significantly. Drop the rx8 Mazda go back and pretend you didn't do it and make another rx7 use a chassis based around the mx5 to keep it cheap and small, modify it a touch to make it a tin top, then use the focus st or rs engine out thier parts bin again keeping down production costs and stick a price tag of about £30k on it you would have a Stella little sports car to rivail Porsches boxster, instead of the dinosaur with half a ton of crap added to it they currently are producing.

i take it you don't like them then lol

I swear gulwings are even a pain in the ass when the chassis is designed for them originally, you end up with ugly pneumatic struts exposed and most importantly if a gull wing car crashes and cones to rest on it's roof your screwed, the SLS has some explosive charge in the door to blow it off like an air bag in the event that happens iirc.

.

I have been upside down in a car which both doors jammed shut, the only exit was the drivers window which completely smashed. I have also been at a scene of an accident trying to help someone out of a car and the door on that was jammed too. you mentioning that has brought it to mind and if the windows didn't give that would be a terrifying experience (if survived). all i know is doors don't like opening after a crash lol. i didn't realise about the explosive charge and that is an awful lot more to consider.
