i have seen three photos of one that is in australia i think and it looks like a targa

Do you mean sissor or lambo style doors? Gull wings would have to pivot on the tbar and would require a complete custom door and targa, as our doors have no surround for the window.

It's your car so do as you please however I wouldn't waste your money. They are expensive to buy expensive to fit tend to drop and do all sorts if annoying things and tbh there a bit tacky these days, even Lambos don't have them anymore.

don't do it looks daft

lambo doors are too common and i'm not a lover of butterfly or suicide doors, i have only seen one car done with gullwings and i understand they are troublesome. but hey i like to be different. If it costs i'll simply save but just would like to be able to contact someone that would do them so i know approximately how much and what is expected.

Andy Saunders might do it. Cost - ££plenty, if you google his name you'll see his work.

Think he's talking about this. Personally I am not keen. It's nicer than hateful 'lambo doors' which should be sent to Satan's commode.

These just look bizarre.

It's all a matter of personal taste, but I think there's nothing sweeter than a subtly modified Zed with decent power and handling.

Gullwings/lambos etc end up out of fashion quite quckly and cost lot to do properly. Good luck with your quest though.

No, it's a t-top that's been modified.

Looks like someone thought whats the worst thing I could do to Zed.....

and that was the result !

Genuinely a crap car based mostly around gimmicks and quirks. They took an iconic Japanese sports car threw away all the good things and kept the crap then made it worse. They kept the silly uneconomical, unreliable and unusual rotary engine, reduced it's power output ignored the fact that 230hp for 12-16mpg is in today's climate just embarrassing really. Then they stuck two ridiculous doors in the back which are barely of any use and simply up the curb weight significantly. Drop the rx8 Mazda go back and pretend you didn't do it and make another rx7 use a chassis based around the mx5 to keep it cheap and small, modify it a touch to make it a tin top, then use the focus st or rs engine out thier parts bin again keeping down production costs and stick a price tag of about £30k on it you would have a Stella little sports car to rivail Porsches boxster, instead of the dinosaur with half a ton of crap added to it they currently are producing.

I swear gulwings are even a pain in the ass when the chassis is designed for them originally, you end up with ugly pneumatic struts exposed and most importantly if a gull wing car crashes and cones to rest on it's roof your screwed, the SLS has some explosive charge in the door to blow it off like an air bag in the event that happens iirc.

Ouch! That stings.

My wife happens to own a 53reg 192 RX8 with just 30k on the clock. We've had it for ~3years or so. Its been 1000% reliable, breezed its MOTs and contrary to popular belief doesn't use gallons of oil. Fuel consumption is no worse than the Zed typically 26-28mpg.

I also have to say, its well built, handles brilliantly, feels like a proper sports car & even with just ~190bhp it is pretty swift. The low torque figure (by turbo diesel standards) of ~160ft/ibs never feels a problem.

IMO a really good car. Yes the engine is quirky, but a little education goes a long way!

Curious to know if you have owned a RX8?

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Mates got one, couple of members of my family own them, they are great, apart from on fuel, none of them have ever broken down, the doors on the back were the main reason they were bought, a sports car that kids can easily get into, and have space, they are no zed, or rx7 but they brilliant in their own right.

It's complete chap that they are unreliable, they just need looking after, by design a rotary engine burns a small amount of oil. They use a certain oil, 0w30 iirc, people let the oil run low, use the wrong oil, or miss services,

They also forget it's an engine that needs to rev, they don't like pottering round cities they need to be driven...

Sorry to jump on this but it bugs me, it's like the people who say zeds are unreliable and overheat,

I'm the same mate

I owned one for 4 years. Never had a single bit of bother with it in the 50k miles.

Fantastically balanced car on B roads. Phenomenal levels of grip, and that howling engine (with a custom exhaust).

Not directly it was owned by my father. Il give it it's dues it went back and forth on long jounerys a fair few times but the common issue with flooding came up a few times, the interior fell apart at any given oppertunity the sump rusted out from the inside out, every mot included suspension repairs and the underside liked worse than a car two or three times it's age. He could get low 20s out if it but on average mid teens. He brought that car a few years old with reasonably low miles, owned it for four years and lost thousands on it, he was gonna sell it earlier but he brought it with his retirement bonus and couldn't bear the finicail hit. It had all the extras, areo kit the lot. It was a pretty disappointing experice and my zed ran timeing a round it and came to it's reduce a fair few times.

Well, everyone as their own experiences with different cars, could have been a bad egg, with a hard life before your time with it.

Dare I say it, in many respects its a better car than the Zed, for me its simply not fast enough and too common, otherwise I'd have my own!

Plus I just love the look of a 300zx.
