anyone know the conversion rate for Bar to PSI?

Need to know what 0.6 bar is in psi.

Featured Replies

1 bar =14.5 psi therefore 0.6 bar = 8.7 psi.

ok, thanks, and what is standard Z boost?

7 psi. I think!

my boost gauge was showing 0.6bar yesterday, and I haven't even upped the boost from standard????

Oh well :D

Don't forget the standard gauge is absolute kak...

You might be getting 4psi for all that tells you!

no, this is an aftermarket one.

How comes you've got an aftermarket gauge but running standard boost? or is boost going up soon!??

What can you run with standard ecu but boost control and chip upgrade, 1 bar? or would you lot say less to be safe?

previous owner fitted it I think.

how should the boost come in? steadily all the way to 9.5?

Pedants corner - standard boost is 7psi, only then if the ECU is happy with conditions such as engine temp (>59 degC) and knock sensor etc will it allow the Boost Solenoid Control Valves (BSCV) to be enabled allowing boost to be raised to 9 or 9.5psi (can't remember which exactly)

However, presumably if you have a boost controller then the BSCV's will be disabled enabling you to blow your engine up when it's stone cold. ;)

Get out of my corner!

What are you all on about, sounds like I've just landed on an alien planet!!

F.T.

Basically F.T. is normally when everything is working well and running to the correct temperature standard boost is 9psi, or just over 0.6 bar.

If the engine is cold, or the detination sensor activates, the boost will be lowered to 7psi so not to cause any damage to the engine.

Clever things our cars. ;)

I have an aftermarket boost gauge and at full boost I get just over 0.6 bar which is correct. My dash one says I am getting 13psi. ;)

Thanks but I'm still not sure what you are on about(am I thick or what?-no,dont answer that)

Is the boost shown on the gauge on the speedo?

I've got a J spec and that shows from -7 to +7.

Am I getting warm or am I on about something else?

Technology marvellous,eh!

Cheers,

F.T.

Yes FT, getting very warm.

UK dash gauges are calibrated in psi. J-spec ones in x100mmHg (hundreds of mm of Mercury. One atmosphere or bar can support a column of mercury 750mm (from memory))

a converter is here (and it converts lots of other stuff too)

http://www.convertit.com/Go/ConvertIt/Measurement/Converter.ASP

Pressure UK spec J spec

0.48 bar = 7 psi = 3.6 100mmHg

0.6 bar = 8.7 psi = 4.5

0.62 bar = 9psi = 4.7

0.93 bar = 13.5psi = 7

1 bar = 14.5 psi = 7.5 x100mmHg = 750mmHg
