Afternoon guys.

Nice to see lots of familiar names around here still, I do still have an occasional read through to see how life with Z32's ticks by... My old car was up for sale a few months ago does anyone know if she got sold again?

I have been trying to rack my brains but I just can't remember who it was, there was a member here that worked for Mercedes and knew an awful lot about them. I was wondering if anyone can point me in their direction. Long story short ive aquired for want of a better word a CLK350 and I had a couple of quick questions for a man with some knowledge.

Mainly before I go and get my backside handed to me at a main dealer for trivial things.

Hope everyone is well!

Hey Chris!

Richard Smith is the man you want to speak to about MB. PaulC also works for MB.

Hey mate, hows things? Ah brilliant, I thought it was Richard Smith! But just couldnt put my finger on it, am I right in thinking he has an SLK350?

He does, yeah. Just bought a newer version too! He's pretty clued up though and so is PaulC.

All good here thanks!

I too know a Mercedes guy Wavey, I got his number from Dazvert a couple of years, very helpful guy, so if you want it let me know.

Hope you're well and I don't think your car changed hands :thumbup1:.

Haha im affraid so Brian. Although I didnt sell the M5, I took the CLK and cash as part x for the M5. Sadly it was time to go, she was ready for a few bits of work and getting a bit long in the tooth.

Welcome back; and that's a tidy looking car Chris; you can't go wrong with modern Mercs....!

As Si says, I know a little about MBs - but PaulC is the guru; he works for MB Canterbury and has years of experience in the cars!! And I do indeed have an SLK350; now on my third one - a 2013 AMG Sport - and I love it...!! Pics below....

What issues do you have mate; I find the MB forum can be pretty helpful also, there's an old fella on there called "Television" who seems to know just about everything MB related.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Find yourself a good independent Mercedes garage. Had W211 E-Class estates for 7 years now and ONLY use my local

indi for genuine MB parts at fair prices, sensible labour rates and trust worthy diagnostics/repair recommendations.

Looks awesome Richard! I do like the new SLK.

Paul, as it happens I've actually sold it to a family member but its got a couple of tiny niggles. The first is the analogue clock which just doesn't move, its stuck at a time, it has the later DVD comand which shows the correct time etc and ive tried changing it and time settings to try and jog the clock back to life but to no avail. Have you seen that before? Any suggestions?

The last is an intermittent creak from the back end which I think is a rear spring, is that likely? Common? Easy to fix? Ive priced up a couple of KYB springs for £65 i think they are.

Hi bud,

The clock could just be a glitch & would try removing the cluster & disconnecting it for a few mins. - on comand vehicles the time is synced from the comand which gets the time via GPS. Otherwise could be an internal fault which may mean a new cluster. Would also be worth checking the coding to make sure it knows it's a comand vehicle but you need star diagnostic tool for this.

Creaking could be springs rubbing rubbing on lower arms- check for signs of fouling marks on the springs where they sit in the arms.

Could also be the rose joint in the hub, a common cause of creaking

Paul

Hi mate, I've actually sold the car so passed the info onto my mums partner. He is a mechanic so can do as he likes! I'm now back to a blue and white roundel in the shape of a 650i. Thanks for the help though I'm sure it will be of some assistance to Mark.

Oh yes, i dont know why, but i do love them and as the prices are dropping might get one, one day lol

Haha its a lovely car by far the best car I have ever owned or even driven. Superb performance, surprising economy and very very comfortable. This particular one has only done 56k as well so lots of life left in her!
