Dos anyone have any pictures of what is under the rear bumper when removed. I'm trying to figure out what metalwork is or should be there on mine without removing it.

Cheers

Gary, thanks for that, if any one has some close ups of the rear qtr area that would be better, out of interest, how difficult is it to remove the rear bumper.

Thanks

From what I can make out its just a recessed panel a few cm's in, is this metal panel available as a spare?

Easier to remove than refit. There are about 8 bolts securing the back to the main body. 2 either side on the inside of the wings and 1 either side accessable from the top of the wheel arch and 1 either side from the bottom of the wheel arch. The very bottom edge has plastic flanges secured with screw-rivets and then finally, you have a but of loom. Once remove, you can take out the number place illumination by way of 2 screw rivets and one metal screw and that pulls straight out.

Another thing to bear in mind, before sliding the bumper off, you have a hinged number plate holder on Japanese models which is secured by 1 x 10mm bolt. Use a deep reach socket or one with an extension, unscrew and lift it upwards.

And don't be surprised if you find the mounting holes are rusted !

Simon , Thanks for that, just the ticket, as always. Also thanks Dan, shows me where the bumper is fitted. the issue I have is the bumper has peeled away in the area shown and the metalwork has put up no fight against oxidation.. I have some options, just needed to know what I was dealing with.

I also agree, there's not a spot of rust on Si's car... immaculate

That's not actually my car! It just happens to be the same colour mine now is, but it is exactly the same under there as that is. The body guy that painted it couldn't believe the condition for a 1991 car.

The pics you posted are of Mad Max's (former) car, aren't they......?

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yup. That car no longer exists. Bob bought it and has now broken it I believe. I think the shell had some rot on it in places.

My shell however has zero. When I had the interior out last month, I poked a camera inside the inner arches and there isn't even a hint of anything there, again, with the bumper off, nothing what so ever. My front cross member, something that goes on even the cleanest of Z32s, is like new. Absolutely no corrosion on there at all.

My car is no concourse winner, but I can confidently say that the shell has absolutely no rust on it at all. :)

Okay, managed to remove the rear bumper, thanks for your tips, the Picture shows where I need to make the "cut" on the panel and then weld on to the corresponding place on the working car, seems straightforward enough... :headvswal

I am surprised that, my donor car, a G Reg, 1 year older, has the same rear panels in such good conditioned rust wise.

Cheers
