Saw this yesterday and makes me wonder if event organiser has Public Liability insurance as if not and they were sued they would end up with no house and every thing taken of them

Even if they just organised a pub meet and something happened there is a good chance they would be liable

the good thing about actual proper car clubs is that they should have PL insurance which would cover any event that is put on under their banner by their members

The only good thing people can take from this is that there will be no one that will allow a driver like that attend any other cruises.

Feel really sorry for all those who got caught up in that mess.

Hopefully the drive will be facing prison time for that stupidity.

This is why I decided not to attend these things years ago, not organised and any idiot with a car can attend and do what they want........

I have seen too many things like this, fights with nobody stopping it and a crowd egging it on......

Stick to organised shows with drag strip, drifting arena, etc.....

Maybe I am old and sensible nowadays............ lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Hard to say who is responsible other than the driver....

B&Q and the land/site owner both deny any knowledge or giving permissions, the police have monitored these meets for a long time and due to no previous incidents have allowed them to continue.

I can see a chance in this attitude from now on.

like with everything it only takes one "Idiot" to spoil it for everyone...

.. and no I don't go to them either.. :)

the prob you have here is most people want to have a bit of fun in there car track days and the like are not the answer as thay cost to much you have to book months a head. you need a place you can just turn up pay like 20 rips and you can boot your car round do burn out and the like if that takes you fancy. this kind of place would be a good idea all is you need is some waste land or old runs ways or the likes of that and there is a good few place like that about.

Southend seafront Saturday night?

I hate those types of things. Full of chavs in carparks acting like complete morons all driving around in shitty hatchbacks doing burnouts and all sorts of pointless crap. Just HATE the 'cruizer' scene.

We tried in the 90's to get some land in Rochford Essex to do just this..... we were asking Mcdonalds to build there, I was running a car spares shop at the time..... So we were going to build a shop there for bling, mods, a workshop, rolling road....

We wanted a reasonable size track with crowd control barriers, a drift / donut section, 1/4 mile strip, etc....

Spoke to the police who thought it would be great to get people off streets onto private land..... they were very enthusiastic....

Then it came to the council who flat out said "No Way!"...... They couldn't see the possibilities of hosting events, clearing up the dangerous cruise nights on Southend seafront (rather than making them move to Basildon / Thurrock)...

It could have helped local economy, created jobs and made lots of car lovers very happy.......

I also looked at a drive in workshop hired by the hour idea..... Someone else tried it locally and failed..... glad I didn't now.....

sounds great I have been saying this for years now if there was one in each city it would help to get the dicks of the road who want to trash there car round for a hour or 2 I for one would would used it often great idea. but no thay wont let you so lets just keep ripping the tarmac up on the public roads then. crazy isn't it

I hate those types of things. Full of chavs in carparks acting like complete morons all driving around in shitty hatchbacks doing burnouts and all sorts of pointless crap. Just HATE the 'cruizer' scene.

I agree to a point. but doing burns outs and drifting round can be fun. the only thing I can say about the cruz scene is there not scared to thrash there cars round for fun and that's why most of them have them. I really HATE garage queens every car I have had I have used and thrashed round as that's why I got it in the first place. I drive my van and x5 round like a 70 year old man but the z am going to ring its neck cus its just for a hour or 2 blast and that's it nothing more

Plymouth has a really strong scene like this, most evenings there are cars up in the place this was filmed. 90% of it is just sub 100hp hatch backs and tbh in my experience the majority is just youths hanging out socialising, it's not a burn out festival. Bit of a chavy place Plymouth, spent my fair share of time down there working at Devonport, I still go down there pretty regularly.

Tbh when stuff like this happens it happens because someone is being a tit. This ruins it for everyone, there's a local hap car club but the meets are often this kinda thing, mc d's carpark etc. What it means it that the police are very hot on any kind of car social. I didn't pass my test that many years ago, however you could then go to an empty carpark and do handbrake turns, doughnuts etc and the police didn't do much, mostly just told you to go away. If you failed to calmed down and bugger off you got booked fair enough, you've been warned. These days though, one hand brake turn and your off to court sonny.

The government and media are always banging on about the poor standard of driving of new drivers. Two questions. Firstly if they passed the test and arn't upto scratch, then the test is failing to test them properly and the learning process isn't preparing them correctly, is that not the bottom line? Did you learn more passing your test or at 1am in sainsburys carpark with trays under the rear wheels? I know which taught me more.

Don't get me wrong being a dick should get you in trouble, but we were all young once, we all did it to some extent and most of the time no real harm is done. Just young and silly. It really does grind my gears that the youth seem to get condemned for every last mistake, they pass thier exams the exams too easy, they fail they are thick etc etc. Cut the poor kids some slack we were all stupid at 18, some if us still are!

your rite. thay/we need some were to take the cars for a few burn out and hand brakes. track days are to expensive and involved you need some were you can just roll up pay £20 rip and then do ye thing for a hour or so. I would deffo go me self theres always waste land or the like all over the place. I admit I do let the rip in my cars at times but I would be happy to go some were and do this kind of thing and pay a low fee. track day costs and insurances takes the piss thay milk it to much and only a few can afford to go to them the rest just use the street as the race tarck

Say what? You want to pay £20 to drive like a tool on some "wasteland"? Burn outs & handbrake turns? Seriously?

Sounds great :wack:

Why not just take it to a drag strip? Or go drifitng.

I think what he's trying to say is, locally, if there was something like that locally. Many parts of this country are devoid of anything like that, there's very little in the chance of track day here, you have to travel. For billy in his 106 that wants to rag it's arse the cost of £170 plus fuel for the day makes it unviable, he works part time in sainsburys remember. So if you could offer him an hour to dick about burn rubber and generally blow steam, for £20 he's gonna take you up on it and hopefully learn a few things in process, get bored, get a better job, car etc and do something better like you mentioned.

As a side not there is a place round here that does offer cheap drifting etc but it's a banger oval with the solid concrete walls, get it wrong and you will smash your car up pretty nicely.

For god sake far better to smash your car up into a concrete wall than smash up 17 people all IMHO

And also did not 99% of the people on here act like complete morons all driving around in shitty hatchbacks doing burnouts and all sorts of pointless crap at some point in their earlier life and anyone who says they didn't is being liberal with the truth

think your missing the point here noz like z32 bolt just said that's hit the nail on head. also there is no local drag or drift places round here. the point am trying to make is like a old runways or waste land like on industrial estates flat concrete .there is losts of places like this about . I bet a lot of people that just want to rag there car round for a hour 2 would go. don't you think this is a good idea?

plus that's better driving like a tool on in mc donalds car park or driving like a tool some place of the road and out of the publics way ????? that's is a much better idea you have to agree

agree 100% there are plenty of people on here who drive speed burnout drive like loons but no one would have the balls to admit it . a cheap place off road for anyone how wants to hoon around for a bit on he cheap is better than in a public park or on the street

Hell no! I drive my car quickly, but burn outs in McDonalds car parks? I had more respect for myself and my car even as a teen!

I'm not missing any point. Have you considered the logistics and the required policing of such an 'event'? How long before two people plough into each other? Then who foots the bill? You'll need marshalls, safety teams etc. RWYB/DWYB is cheap enough and manned appropriately. Plus you get something for your time/money.

I think it's a terrible idea if the only upside is that it stops you driving like a tool in McDonalds. The video is bad, but it happens in other territories too, it's nothing new. Usually a Corvette is the culprit. Something something Darwin.

And yes, I drove spiritedly when I was younger. Sometimes in shitty hatchbacks I hasten to add. I lived in Whitby, which as a town could only be accessed by some of the best roads in the North. We all had shitty hatchbacks, we used to park up in the Co-Op car park and chill out. Or just cruise round & round picking up girls. Even at that age, I knew that if I dumped the clutch I would create some smoke & noise, and even at that age I realised it would be completely stupid to do it surrounded by people or at a fast-food car-park. So we took it out into the country roads and scared ourselves silly at night and learned how to drive properly. You can hoon around and have a shred of intelligence. It's not mutually exclusive.

As soon as I had a half-nippy car (Cavalier GSI 2000, 17 years ago) I took it to Pod with some mates and had an amazing time. That worked for me just fine, and still does. So, to me, whilst being a slightly better idea than making 11s at Maccy D's, it is still a shit knee-jerk reaction idea to some numpty in a Fiesta going bowling.

IMO :)

Totally agree with this!

I too had a Cavalier GSi! Thought it was a great car! Fitted some H&R springs to it and it handled like it was on rails!

having some were off the road is better than just doing it public track days are all the likes are a bit to involved and cost to much for the guy stacking shelves in Tesco and b and q so if you can get em off the road to do this it makes sense

I also used to have 205 gti as a kid and did drive like a loon back then if I had some were I could have gone off the road local and cheap I would have done it there. a mate of mine died in a saxo years ago after driving like a loon one night if he was off the road to get it out of his system am sure he would be here to day
