So not all Koi are loadsamoney then?? Is it all about patterns or something? Mate of mine has some about 2feet long, I assumed they were worth bucks lol

Nah, some are worth thousands but they need to be pure breed with fantastic colouring. I've got a couple of koi in my pond one is nearly 4ft long but it's not worth much as it's a ghost koi and they are quite common and don't have a value as such. The other is a metallic koi, but again it's not worth much at all.

Exactly that, colour forms shapes etc. Very similar to pedigree dogs. They are often a minefield when small, a 3-6" fish may chamge dramatically as it grows making it from expensive to cheap, the converse rarely happens, this is the reason why large fish quickly amass value. It could take 100s of black and white koi to give a show winning Shiro bekko. We had a few nice fish once upon a time, it's something is like to try again when I have the space.

The Talapia are probably wort more to the locals as a food fish.

I'll take some pics on Tuesday if I remember as I'm round his. You can tell me if he's in the money lol

Hmmmmm talapia....... Sorry folks, my local pub serves talapia pan fried in almond butter with sauté potatoes and fresh vegetables. Goes down well with a nice chilled Chablis......

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

They're probably the worlds most eaten fish now mate. Only really like cod myself and it has to be wrapped in beer batter :) lol

Made my own tonight mate; always love a good old fashioned cod and chips.....

I never realised talapia was so popular to be honest - as I've not seen it on the menu in that many plaices (and yes, I meant to spell it like that:lol: ).....

Sounds nice mate :thumbup1:

Yeah, talapia are an asian fish, they've been eating them for years. Think they've been introduced into africa and americas too. Saying that they might be african and imported..etc.. lol They were introduced over here to try and give an alternative to cod. Never tried it myself.

Ahh right! The chap in my pub says they are common in South Africa, so that makes sense....

There actually a family rather than one species, there are tough breed well and put on weight quickly. Because of this they have been released worldwide, giving rise to other issues. The issue of non native fish breeding in the wild is really a bit if a unspoken environmental disaster. Snakeheads, Nileperch and the walking catfish are some prime examples, there are some really rubbish things going on presently that just go under the raydar due to lack of fur and the cute factor as well as not being attributed to the cash cow of global climate change. Even our British waterways are a state, we keep getting told about improving water quality yet fish stocks continue to dwindle, prey fish such as the humble Roach are significantly on the decline, for example 50 years ago on the stour a good match fisherman could expect a bag of 100lb on a days fishing, comprised of barbel and chub. Now a bag of 30-50lb is exceptional, the barbel you may only catch every few sessions if your good, if your average less than 10 fish per year...but hey as long as they get HS2 and those silly little gee whizz cars in London who cares about actual environmental policy.

Lol, I live in a world where a pocket knife is a tool of life, it is also perfectly legal for me to carry a folding blade under 3". However I can be pulled into the police station and booked for the possession if an offensive weapon because in other parts of this country it's not a tool of life, it's simply a weapon.

HS2 and Great Missenden is not a good subject at all!

Or anywhere in The Chilterns TBH Dave.... Fortunately for me, it's a good few miles away - but in principle the whole concept is just pointless....

HS2, It's about as sensible as putting an airport in the Thames estuary.

Can't wait for yet more bloody easy jet or ryan air over my house...... bad enough with Southend airport having their new flight path over my house....... Yayyyyy more plane fumes.....

Strangely my 2 sons have suddenly got asthma since they started flying over!!!

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
