Monumental cock-up, hugely pissed off - I might miss Coventry!! :(

The very worst I had feared has happened! Well, it's obvious to say my Z won't be ready for the show, not down to me being unable to rebuild it, but because the bodyshop has taken longer than they estimated. The paint job however is superb and the car, although it bits look better than it ever has done. The issue arose late afternoon today when I had a phone call from National Windscreens who said that one of their guys was off sick and wouldn't be able to make it to refit my glass. Thanks for letting me know at 5.30 chaps!

Why has has this caused a problem? Well, because my car has taken longer than they'd wanted, cars have now backed up and they're having to start work on a 968. There is no more space for my car after tomorrow and the thing is not water tight. They have to machine polish it and finish off a few bits of spraying tomorrow morning and they close at 1. I need to get that car out of there as fast as possible and home to the garage as it's insecure and not watertight. I can't leave it any longer there after tomorrow as they also have an Alfa Romeo Roadster and there's no more space to store my car, ie, it has to be out tomorrow. Since they have 3 hours work left on it, I can't collect it until about noon time.

I doubt I'll get up to Coventry until the time the show is all over - or close to.

I am MIGHTILY pissed off as this was the one show I really wanted to attend this year, with or without my Z. I am sorry to those I said I'd be there and I am sorry to those whom I said I'd volunteer.

I don't really know quite what to do at the moment. :(

Oh, crap - sorry for you Si. Take a deep breath and chalk it down to experience. As an ex work mate of mine used to say "does it matter?... And even if so, does it really cosmically speaking matter?". Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's revolving and evolving at a thousand miles an hour....

Gutted for you Si. Hope the weather is ok for when you are getting it home. Thunderstorms predicted for here!

Surely if the paint shop have taken longer than expected they won't expect you to move the car if there is inclement weather? Hope you get it sorted bud.

Offer them the use of Your garage to store one of the other cars

Well if I didn't have to shift it tomorrow, I'd be going! It's such a pain in the ass that not only were my plans to bring the Z have been scuppered, but that me attending has been scuppered.

They wouldn't do that, purely for insurance purposes.

Well no, but I will have to wait until a window of dry weather appears. Showers are forecast tomorrow, so I'll need to move it around then.

SOOOOO FECKED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They cant, CANT shift yours out because they over run. That simply isn't your problem, they have other cars coming in, they are behind simples they will have to delay the next car coming in by 24 hrs its their fault.

No it's not, it's not just their fault, it's also the windscreen fitter's fault. They were expected in today and polishing was going to commence, we waited around while I rebuilt the car. It's all just a bit of a nightware. I didn't want to give them shit either as I want my car to look as good as possible.

....plus I am away on Monday and Tuesday, so I wouldn't have been able to leave it there even if they had had space over the weekend for it.

I have had a similar thing missing TOTB for the MOT failure that I didn't see coming. And I am missing Coventry for work. BUT THE MAIN THING IS, you get the car sorted. It is a beautiful car, I had to come to the same decision:

1) Rush the repair make the race

2) Do what is best for the car

I realise that ideally you would have done the best job and made the show but at least one of the nicest zeds in the world will get the best job done on it, and will still be roadworthy to attend the 30th anniversary. I will see you there :thumbup1:

Well I was going to come up in my DD, but due to circumstance beyond my control, it looks like that ain't gonna happen either! If anything changes, I'll be straight on the M5!

Thats a real shame mate.

Point is though, non of this is your fault. Surely the bodyshop can't shift yours out? Can they not just mask up the windscreen "hole" from the apeture to polish and stuff so that at least it's ready to just pop the screen back in?

Peter

feel for you Si and Tom as ive had to travel yesterday to work for three weeks not back until blood augast and that was a major kick up the arse for me. cas of work im nearly missing the lot this year.

It was originally going to be the plan, but we didn't realise as time went on that the windscreen fitter wasn't going to turn up, their guy had other work commitments. It's not really the bodyshop's fault, TBH, they've been brilliant and have allowed me to rebuild my car on site and use various tools that I haven't had, they really have been excellent guys.

That is a damn shame Si - I was looking forward to catching up:sad:

But Steve does have a slight point - granted, it's not their fault - but they took on the job of getting your car sorted; and no doubt knew there was some reliance on 3rd parties to sort such issues as re-fitting glass etc.

So now, seeing as you're the customer, paying handsomely for a top notch paint job, how can they now turn around and say you have to remove your car (knowing full well it is not finished and water-tight) by tomorrow as they have other jobs in. Mate, even if this was the best damn spray shop IN THE WORLD, I'd not pay them a penny of my money with them having an attitude like that!

Your car is clearly not finished; nor worthy of being removed from their premises in consideration of the potential weekend weather conditions. At the very least, they need to find somewhere dry and secure to store your car until they can finish off all the bits to your complete satisfaction. You're the customer and, whilst the windscreen company has let everyone down, they are nonetheless a business too and understand that things do not always go to plan. Hence, if not just for the £££s you are handing over, they should have some contingency plan in reserve.....

Ditto Richard! If I can get anything sorted out tomorrow morning, then I will. This all came about at 10 minutes before they were shutting up shop and didn't really have time to think about it.

It always does buddy!! Chill out this evening with a glass of wine or two, compose your thoughts and have a calm and rational chat with the body shop guys first thing in the morning. Hopefully you can sort something out for the least inconvenience to you - which may just allow you to pop along to Coventry; but if not, at least you can go away next week knowing your Zed is safely stowed away somewhere dry until the work is done!

Good luck Si.....:clover:
