I have had what I think is a great idea :)

My front grill is silvery metal painted black. It has obviously gone silver again and any painted metal will do the same.

What if I added a touch of class (by "I", obviously I mean Darren) by using something like this instead.

Please discuss, I don't want it to be a 'feature' just a pleasant surprise if anyone inspects it, a nice touch, something to make a petrol-head dip their neck in a car park, like when you spot an intercooler winking at you from inside the mouth of an mx5.

Really? LOL. I hope you kept it on anyway. I've driven past plenty of cop cars and they've never batted an eyelid.

Yeah, left it on.

It was then on my VXR8.

And then on my S-Max until late last year when someone buggered it by crashing into the front of me.

The Slicky has a 3/4 plate.

Put a few pics on facebook too, don't look tho' as you might get upset Lol!

If I go with the 99 spec front fascia I will go with a smooth nose, however I personally think the snorters suit the 89, it came like it, for now it's staying lol.

Black mesh in main hole, plastic (made of mudflaps lol)water/air guides in the sides and a square plate...

I got that plastic mesh & fixed it with M3double sided tape.

Though Halfords do a good double sided tape!

As for the plate! My mate just told me I will get pulled for it!

I think I must be the only person to ever be stopped for running a 3/4 plate!

£60 spot fine.

I have too, got the fine.

My spacing was normal could have made it look like something else but didn't, there's some people who have expensive cars and there plates really take the pi55 and they never seem to get any bother.

Anyway

I'm going to have to stick to chicken wire as my wings west skirts have it built in and looks ok

A chap locally has a DVLA letter for his S15 after getting a hard time from the cops, he produces that now and since the debacle to begin with which saw him get hauled in after insisting it was legal, he got an apology letter and some money for new sticky pads lol. Surely if we can get one if those letters the club is home free.

The Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) (Amendment) regulations 2002 SI no. 2687 came into force in November 2002.

These amendment regulations introduce a new regulation 14A, making special provision in relation to the size and spacing of characters in the registration number of some imported vehicles. These regulations also include the display of motorcycle sizes number plates on imported vehicles. The provision only applies to vehicles imported into the UK which do not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval, and are so constructed, that the area available for the fixing of the registration plate precludes the display on the plate of a registration number in conformity with the requirements of regulation 14.

Also contained is an amendment to regulation 3, to prohibit the use of a number plate on which the background is patterned or textured, or gives that appearance.

Where a vehicle has been allocated a UK registration number, the number plate must comply with the specification and standards laid out in the Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, as amended. Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display numberplates with smaller characters if the vehicle does not have European Community Vehicle Type Approval and the vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size numberplates.

The dimensions for the smaller sized plate are:

• each character in the registration number must be 64mm high

the width of each character of the number, other than the letter 'I' and the figure '1' must be 44mm

• the width of every part of the stroke forming a character in a number must be 10mm

the spacing between any two characters within a group must be 10mm

• the vertical spacing between groups of characters must be 5mm

• the width of a margin between the number and the top and lateral sides of the numberplate must be not less than 5mm

• the space between the bottom of the number/character and the bottom of the plate must not be less than 13mm, but within that space, the space between the bottom of the number and the top of the name and postcode of the person the plate was supplied must not be less than 5mm.

Sadly mate, I don't recon that will shut up Johnny plod as the z32 was sold in the UK. It both says you can and can't in the same sentence. The key word being SOME it's all down to interpretation of the law. I recon a 99 spec would get away with it though, due to not being marketed here and the preformed plate plinth.

Well i used that letter when the police tried to fine me and they backed down. after lots of guidance too-ing and fro-ing In the end i said you have your guidance i have this guidance, take me to court and i got an apology letter (if you can call it an apology).

Peter
