Mine went to the paint shop today at 8, glass man came at 11, bodyshop started at just after 11. I need it back by Thursday PM if I am to have any chance of getting it put back together for Coventry - gives me 2 full evenings!!

What was wrong with the paint for you to have to go back to those extremes?

It was dirty:laugh::laugh:

It's a good job, spin doctor(Dave?) has a good sense of humour. I'm glad this thread went sideways and became full of the normal banter, just needs puns now to be completely traditional. It's a shame Silverline is leaving, seems like a good guy. I suppose many of you will be able to keep in contact through different mediums and maybe he will come back, like a zombie. There's a core of bloody good guys here, even if it does go wrong now and again. Who's up for a new thread?

We need to find Si's car before paint and super glue a body kit on to it!!

I have a veilside kit that you can use PIG... But it didn't come from me...... If you don't tell him he will never know it was me......

I heard he wanted it painted bright pink as well......... If someone rings the body shop and pretends to be Si........ lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

If a Vileside bodykit comes within a mile of my Z, I will throw that fibreglass into Portishead Marina where all the other boats are!

I wasn't happy with it and the imperfections, which were everywhere started to grate on me more and more to the point where I just had to get something done about it. I was going to wait a while, but it got to the stage where I didn't even like looking at it!

Basically the pearl mid coat was screwed up, it looked like it had been applied at a pressure too low and hadn't atomised correctly before laying on top of the base coat. In some lights the car looked amazing, at certain angles in direct sunlight however, it was really really patchy. The only option was for a full respray....at another garage.

Gutted for you Si. Hope it turns out to your satisfaction this time bud.

I did wrangle with the body shop who did the original job and he started to get quite shitty with me. The bumper had to go back to him a couple of times as it was.

It is a shame as the top coat and final finish were fantastic, I may not get that same again, but at least with that, I can correct anything with a good detailer, but it should be good. The guy who's painting it now is ex-Honda and is used to painting pearl paints including whites and when he took one look at mine knew exactly what had caused the faults in the mid coat.

He's done me some colour cards which were highly appealing....of a slightly different colour. ;)

The previous guy I don't think had much experience in painting in pearls as he predominantly spent his time rebuilding classic cars and because of that, didn't get the exposure and experience to gun set up for pearl paints which can be quite an art in itself!

Thank god you didn't hit that woman after it was sorted. Was there a reason you chose a pearl over a metallic or solid colour, bearing in mind the related fuss

I really like pearl white and didn't want to go for a metallic or solid. I considered for a short while to go for Ford's solid white which is one of the purist solid whites I have ever seen. Most solid whites have a hint of yellow on them, but the ford white, similarly the Kia solid white is a really nice white.

As for metallics, years ago I thought about bayside blue, but I am happy with how my Z looked and wanna keep it as it is, just want better paint. My car has always been a pearl white Z.

Damn auto correct ruining my grammar!

I will be happy just to get some colour on it at the minute lol and will worry about any imperfections after, although im not looking for perfection as i havent stripped mine of glass and gone as far as you did, but i will on the TT project.

I hope they sort it out to your satisfaction, turned out to be a bloody expensive paint job eh

I HATE mask lines and over spray, so I remove everything I can. It only costs me some time. To take the rear screen and rear quarters out and refit is only costing me about £120. I took the door glass out and totally stripped the doors. Windscreen stays in as I won't be having the roof done.

I cringe when I see Z32s with body colour wheel arch liners and intercoolers ducts.

My wheel arch liners are out and everything stripped to a point, just not the glass, i figure that once the body is painted, anything i can take off at a later date to sort i can do myself, its a solid colour and as long as i dont leave it too long the colour match should be fine.

It would be nice to have some intercooler ducts..... let alone ones that have been over sprayed..... lol

Can't wait to see yours finished Si...... I take it, it will be ready for Beaulieu ??

I guess I will have to park next to your car with my lovely Z so you can admire the veilside kit all day long..........lol

Beaulieu? Damn, I need it ready for Coventry! Haha

I couldn't get the pearl paint right on my last car either Si. something to do with the metal flake in the pearl standing on edge slightl with the metal and lying flatter on the plastic. Had a metal wing and plastic bumper done at the same time with the same paint and when the light hit it looked different. I ended up taking it back twice and then getting the whole car done in Mercedes Arktic White. To be honest, it looked 10 times better than the pearl did too.

Peter

Ps. back on topic, you should definitely reconsider leaving the forum mate. 99% of people on here are really helpful and friendly.

There is no metal flake in pearl. There isn't even any in metallic, it's actually plastic particles in metallic, but these can react to static too.

Hellow Yellow, its a Smart car yellow, but not the pissy thin looking one lol
