Ok so i'm finally ready to tell my short story and put up my photo's of my wounded car been really depressed ever since the incident especially as wasn't my fault, It was about 2 ish weeks ago now and an early sat morning and quite wet a flash shower I had just come over a railway bridge single lane round a tight left bend in second started to accelerate and out of nowhere met a focus hurtling towards me middle of the road bearing in mind this is a back road not very wide and a slight bank to left and a drop to train tracks I instinctively swerved to miss the oncoming car clipped side I think front wheels dug in to the grass verge and car started to slide hit verge went air borne took out two fences still spinning drivers side impact hit tree and landed wedged between tree and fence back wheels on the edge of the drop to the train tracks, I saw the other car stop and then take off the police found glass at scene(not mine) but its my own insurance job, on looking at pics car doesn't look to bad and didn't initially but the chassis is damaged I am told its fixable but the insurance have now classed car as a write off and I just don't know if I should be fixing it or not as the underside of car apart from damage is solid and rust rot free and I do love the car and if don't fix will be buying another one But even just cosmetically its going to cost me around 3500-4000 then there is the chassis and whatever else might be bent I guess I am lucky as could have ended up on train tracks etc but all can think of is how Fu***d my car is and that I wish had hit other car head on stop them from going anywhere.

Ouch, just thank your lucky stars your ok. The police have accepted your account and won't be investigating further I take it? 3-4k to fix it seems pretty high, now it's been written off the insurance would be higher too, I think sadly it would be sensible to buy the shell back take off all the goodies and scrap it, buy another one and transfer what you can.

Cheers guys police not interested as no cctv or nothing and the 3-4k is mainly body work and painting plus parts it needs front bumper rear wing door side skirt chassis pulled straightened and both front hubs are bent, buckled I have already turned down first two offers from insurance I have made them send an independent assessor out to value car been over a week since the assessor looked at car don't know if that's good or not If I get a decent price might just look for another one as I have a feeling components underneath damaged to control arms etc could run very costly to repair so I trust her again :(

Im gutted for you mate, its not a nice sight to see your pride and joy in that state, at least you were not hurt.

To be honest groover sounds bad but I would a preferred to have broken something and for car to be a little less wounded Not sure I have the fight to have it repaired or if its even worth it just need wait see what insurance are going to do.

Well you can make a more informed decision when you hear back from the insurance, meanwhile if its been seen by the assessor and its in your possession i would start stripping it, either way it will need to be done to be repaired or scrapped.

groover if it gets scrapped how much can I get away with stripping off it without replacing?.. Ive already taken off coil overs as they had only done about 80mile lol

As much as you want to save really, from the engine and box to the interior, lights, targas, rubbers, trims, depends if you have room to store it, have the time to do it. If you plan on getting another one, if this isnt a viable repair, then think what you would like to swap over to the other zed.

Option 2 break it and sell whatever you can to recoup some money and plough into the next one. As much as i would like to save every zed from the scrap heap, there has to be a cut off point to what is viable. If you can get as much out of the insurance as close to your needs, get another zed that is structurally sound and add or swap over the best bits from your old one, may save time and heartache down the road.

Only you can decide really, some of us are attached to the zed as a labour of love, some not so.

I am attached to the car but there is been attached and been like you said a viable repair ie if it would cost me more to repair than the insurance pay me out hope fully I will know within the week I might not be able to get everything off I want cos of time and effort would really like the gearbox/clutch but think that's pushing it time wise, cheers for your help though I just wasn't sure I was able to remove stuff from car thought it had to go as is without missing bits lol.

Sorry to see it mate and can't believe the bellend in the focus drove off!!

Hi David have you spoken to the Body shop guy's on here....... get them to quote for repairs........ Mine was miles worse when I bought her as previous owner had taken out huge sign on motorway sideways with NO insurance cover.....

The post had gone through passenger door, smashed T-Top and stopped at chassis rail...... was a mess, but straightened up okay.........

A good body shop should be able to pull most out, cut off sill and fit a new one......

The front looks like a new bumper and fittings......

You were bloody lucky nothing came through windscreen........

Sorry to hear about this, but again...... you are okay...... and Karma will visit the knob in the focus one day.............

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

the guy that made you crash just drove off. wow that is a low thing to do isn't it

Sorry to see that mate - whilst the car might well be repairable, I'd probably let it go and buy another....

.....And if it were me, I'd probably have wished I'd hit the Focus with hindsight... Good luck in whatever you decide mate; but above all, I am pleased you are OK and walked away from it intact. A car can be replaced, but your own body parts are harder to fix.....

Richard:clover:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Jeez mate, really gutted for you. I wrote my first one off and felt like you do now. I accepted that mine was dead, bought it back from the insurance, bought a new one and sort of re built it in homage to my old one.. They were two completely different car but I swapped the seats and wheels over to my new and soon forgot about the old one..

Yeh I think I am more leaning towards Buying another as not sure even repaired I would trust it again unless I went to the extreme of Replacing everything underneath from my n/a plus new brakes etc etc by which point I be running a bill far higher than buying another one I just wish the insurance would hurry up as I have seen a few that would be worth a look at least knowing my luck will get money through and be nothing for sale lol.
