Guys, this is a big one, I need a shoulder to cry on, and a welder :(

My car failed it's MOT on rust, I went elsewhere and it failed again. I had always planned to do a full on, 'glass out' respray at Bodymech probably next summer but can't really afford it at the minute. The car is out of MOT and it is here...

Insurance is up in 2 weeks, I am skinto because I just got the mechanical refresh done (K-Sports, Clutch, Cooling) This was because I could only drive it very gingerly as it was, the brakes were crap and the clutch was slipping. But now, it is knackered. I can afford the insurance I planned for that, but any big repair and we are into tins of beans and "please Mr bank manager..."

I feel awful, I feel like an idiot, I don't stop telling people how much I love my car blah-blah, but it is now borderline, "spares and repair". The garage it is at could patch it, but it will be an agricultural job, I think were past staples and glue, and into re-constructive surgery with this one.

Do I re shell, do I repair, do I retreat :no::sad:

And, If I drive it to bodymech for repairs, am I gonna get nicked. I am not taking the piss, I am taking it for specialist repair without MOT. And I will do it between midnight and 8am.

you can leggally drive your taxed and insured car to any mot station of preference on that day of mot with time to get there as long as its booked in .and is why i said get a email copy to say yes its booked in there diary from the garage, and id rather pay the mot man 40 quid even if you dont do the mot . better than 700 quid and extra potential trouble, and an mot man to receave 40 quid to clear your conchence saves you 640 quid minnus the petrol if you decide to drive. and it dosnt matter if your sills gotta great big whole in it. does it, just because now you dont have a bit of firbre glass to cover it up , does not mean it wasnt there befor a.drive or trailer or better still use your chopper as a rescue mission and fly it down there. just take out the targa roof and aske them to pick u up because you need recuing and sit in your car. come on tom. get it done properly. as for the brakes then you can chase them up whilst the works being done. you have brake yes?

yer hany that . i was looking at that tonight myself. not cas of my car but was just happened to go on that site tonight for somthing else

It's a no brainer IMO. Book it in with Terry for an MOT and take it to Bodymech who will get the job done properly. Driving without MOT dorsnt attract points anyway so at worse a £60 fine :-)

Or book an mot with Terry and pop into TOTB on the way lol.

Blimey!-that's a lot of money for a ''mot job'' !

Would pay to have the car transported and the job done properly, this includes any inner strengtheners that never seem to be shown on any pics.........

I'll make sure Al sees this mate as they don't look beyond saving!

The other side(crushed) can be sorted(if you saw the state of Marks!)

Body kits do hide a lot Tom and finding rust is not nice but you will get it sorted mate. Good luck:clover:

I'm sure Jimmer or Funky called them shitcatchers or something like that... lol

Keep the faith Tom, Bodymech will get you sorted mate :thumbup1:

 A Sea King does well to pick itself up Spin Doctor, they only have 3200Hp and weigh 9 tonnes, Bob Genie has a better power to weight ratio! The lads would have more luck blowing the car along with the downwash!

The plan I have settled on is get the job done properly at Bodymech. How I get there I hadn't decided but "know the laws you're breaking" and all that, a £60 fine is that all Bob? I think I will fill the glove box with crack while I am at it make it proper cheeky midnight run

I will probably book one, which will clear me with a roadside stop, but will an ANPR camera zap me if I am not on the system as MOT'd? Is it worth looking into some sort of http://www.Totally illegal MOTs .com to get me past ANPR cameras in anticipation of getting a proper MOT in 6 weeks?

Yeah, but Bob would be shite rescuing Joe Public from Mountain Tops though... Where would the winchman sit??

In your line of work mate, I wouldn't risk getting caught. Would cause you all sorts of problems at work.

And of course the club cannot condone any attempt at breaking motoring laws. So can everyone please refrain from mentioning them on the forum as it could be used against you....

No one on here offered any illicit services Steams, I have dodgy mates in real life :)

I don't want to break any laws, just do the right thing, without getting pulled.

This is from the .Gov website.

If your vehicle fails the test

You’ll get a ‘notification of failure’ from the test centre if your vehicle fails the test. The failure will be recorded in the secure central MOT database.

You can still drive your vehicle if it fails the test and its existing MOT certificate is still valid (ie you got it tested before the expiry date). However, you might be stopped by police and prosecuted if your vehicle is unroadworthy.

If the vehicle fails the test and the certificate has expired, you can only drive it to:

a pre-arranged appointment at a garage to have the repairs done

a pre-arranged MOT test appointment

Your vehicle should be retested at the same test centre which did the original test.

So you can drive it to a "a pre-arranged appointment at a garage to have the repairs done"

Print this and take it with you

Sorry I missed this post the first time,

So I am fine taking it to Bodymech as a repair centre

But the vehicle is arguably un-roadworthy for rust.

The retest centre... well they will have to **** off... it isn't feasible to do shuttle runs from Notts to Moray for a technicality, this car will be more road worthy that 90% of the rest of the traffic we have after the repairs. I will not get penalised for having high standards and getting 3 MOTs at 3 Garages.

Damn Tom, those sills look terrible...!! :( :(

Hope you can get it sorted sharpish, bud. If you need to drop in here on your way down, just let me know!

Just let me know when, matey! :thumbup1:

No disrespect Tom but let this thread be education for newbies buying zeds...made more serious by post 48.

As prev mentioned- you can take a car anywhere and bizarrely any distance for a prebooked MOT.

I bought a Zed at Southampton docks auction straight off the boat about 7 years ago and booked it

in for an MOT near Glasgow! I drove it back with no reg plates, MOT, UK reg doc etc.

I did get stopped on M6 but I had several DVLA/Vosa pages printed out detailing the legislation etc

and Japanese docs/receipts etc and insurance. The cops were ok, a bit bemused that what I was doing could be

legal but checked it out and let me go.

When I left my MOT station and drove 3 miles back home I got stopped by the local traffic cops. One was unsure but the

other guy was not happy (no plates/tax/v5 etc). I kept my nerve (and my manners!) I reiterated my understanding of the law

and they let me go on my way.

You'll be fine. Remember to take copies of the information on Vosa website etc (cos it does seem ridiculous

that you can drive 300 miles for an MOT passing dozens of MOT stations en route) good luck!
